Celebrating the Best of Creation on Milad Salallahu Alaihi Wa Salam

The world was filled with a light of distinction on the day of the birth of the Noble Holy Last Messenger, Muhammad Mustapha, peace and blessings of Allah ta’ala be upon him. The Best of Creation entered this physical world in Rabi al-Awwal, the third month of the Hijri calendar, as a mercy to all of mankind. Almighty Allah Himself declared that Rasulullah’s name, peace be upon him, would be exalted. 

“And have (We not) exalted for you your name and given you fame?” 

Sura 94:4. 

Up to this very day, 1,448 years after the hijra from Mecca to Medina, during the month of Rabi al-Awwal, this ayat continues to proclaim the promise that the name of Muhammad, peace be upon him, would be exalted and will be raised to the highest level of respect and eminence attainable. In multiple countries around the world, the adhan announces that Muhammad, peace be upon him, is the Messenger of Allah five times every day, which cumulatively amounts to being recited every day, every minute, and every second for all time to come. In addition to the call of the adhan, within the obligatory five daily prayers performed by more than 2 billion Muslims around the world, durood shareef is recited: “O Allah, send prayers upon Muhammad and upon the family of Muhammad just as You have sent prayers upon Ibrahim and upon the family of Ibrahim; verily You are the Praiseworthy, the Glorious. O Allah, bless Muhammad and the family of Muhammad just as You have blessed Ibrahim and the family of Ibrahim; verily You are the Praiseworthy, the Glorious.” Surely this is just one aspect of the realization of his exaltedness and honor. 

Commemorating the birth (Milad) of the Holy Last Messenger, Muhammad Mustapha, peace be upon him, is another opportunity for Muslims all over the world to rehearse the miraculous events of his birth, to review his seerat, reinforce acts of sunnah, and to increase darood and salawat upon him. Almighty Allah reveals His love for His Nabi, peace be upon him, when He, Most Glorious, says;

“Indeed, Allah showers His blessings upon Nabi, and His angels pray for him, O you who believe, invoke Allah’s blessings upon him, and salute him with worthy greetings and peace.” Sura 33:56 

SubhanAllah! What an invitation to join this affair of Divine love! 

Milad un Nabi is a chance for lovers of the most eloquent deliverer of the Sacred Text to recall his high degree of purity, as Hazrat Al ‘Abbas, may Allah be pleased with him, relates that Rasulullah, peace be upon him, said, “Allah created Creation and He placed me among the best of them from the best of their generations. Then He selected the tribes and He put me among the best of their families. I am the best of them in person and the best of them in family.”  

At the moment of his blessed birth, he prostrated himself in adoration of his Rabb and was then presented to the saints among jinn and men, by Divine decree, while an exclamation was made, “Endow him with the purity of Hazrat Adam, with the strength of Hazrat Nuh, with the friendship of Hazrat Ibrahim, with the nature of Hazrat Ishaq, with the eloquence of Hazrat Isma’il, with the glad tidings of Hazrat Ya’qub, with the beauty of Hazrat Yusuf, with the voice of Hazrat Dawud, with the abstinence of Hazrat Yahya, and with the kindness of Hazrat Isa, peace be upon them all. (And) Immerse him into the sea of the morals of the Ambiya and the inspired Messengers.” 

These all-encompassing qualities were evident in his striking physical appearance and perfect conduct. Hazrat Anas, may Allah be pleased with him, narrated that the Holy Nabi, peace be upon him, was more handsome, courageous, and generous than anyone else because he was the noblest of all men, and he was the most even-tempered. In another narration, Hazrat Anas, may Allah be pleased with him, expounds that the Holy Nabi, peace be upon him, was the greatest possessor of knowledge and wisdom. He was the most honorable, just, humane and forbearing, virtuous and chaste, beneficent, patient and fortitudinous of all men. He was completely perfect in all praiseworthy qualities and his distinct character was not acquired or learned, rather it was bestowed as a special gift from the Most Merciful. The Mother of the Faithful, Hazrat Aisha, may Allah be pleased with her, said, “His character was the Holy Quran. He was pleased by what it finds pleasing and angry according to what it finds hateful.” 

There is no shortage of evidence that supports the love and adoration the Ummah must have for Nabi Kareem, peace be upon him. There is tremendous excitement and anxious anticipation to

commemorate and celebrate the walking, talking Quran, peace be upon him, during this Milad un Nabi. Take advantage during the festivities to recite abundant salawat [blessings], complete daily Dala’il Khayrat, read from Aab e Khauthur, adopt a new sunnah, and thank Allah for an excellent example of conduct and nobility. We praise Allah and beseech Him for His blessings on His Noble Messenger, peace be upon him.
