York, SC) October 8, 2015, The Red Crescent Society of American Muslims in affiliation with The Muslims of America, Inc. have dispatched scouts from its southern locations to assist in relief efforts for victims of the historically unprecedented flooding that have plagued South Carolina for the past several days. Scouts from South Carolina, Virginia, Tennessee, and Mississippi have travelled to the hardest affected areas in Richland County, SC. Overall 19 flood-related deaths were reported of which 9 occurred in Richland County.
In relief operations directed by His Eminence El Sheikh Mubarik Ali Shah Gillani, TMOA Scouts traveled to Columbia, Charleston and Kingstree South Carolina. Hundreds of displaced residents have lost everything and are living in shelters after enduring torrential rains that caused devastating death and destruction estimated to be in the billions.
Ramadan Shakir from York County headed the RCSAM contingent from South Carolina. “Many of the people that we assisted lost everything and have spent the past week in shelters.” Shakir commented. “We were in Charleston yesterday and today we came to Kingstree. We helped at the Kingstree Shelter, which is more than 150 miles south of York. People were amazed that we had travelled such a distance to offer help. But some of our scouts came from a much further distance.”
The Red Crescent Society of American Muslims assist with humanitarian causes irrespective of race, religion color and creed.
