BINGHAMTON- A loving mother of five, noticed that something was really wrong with her 16 year- old son, Muhayyaddin. For the last 3 months he had been experiencing symptoms of a crushing sensation, hearing odd sounds and seeing a silhouette of a figure that had been causing him extreme fear and agitation –so much so that he had often stayed up at night avoiding sleep and playing audio recitation of the Holy Quran. He was terrified to stay alone and his haggard appearance that particular evening caused her great concern. After the evening prayer she supplicated to God to protect and help her son. A few hours later she received a call from Dr. Hussein Adams who reported that the founder of El Gilani Methodology (EGM), El Sheikh Dr. Mubarik Ali Gilani, had heard something was wrong with her son and wanted to help. Dr. Adams was apprised of the situation a few days prior for Muhayyadin had called him complaining of extreme fear and terror. As soon as he closed his eyes to go to sleep, he began feeling a strong “presence” overtake him. This “thing” would try to strangle him and ultimately wanted to kill him. Dr. Hussein Adams then contacted the Vice Chancellor of IQOU and founder of the El Gilani Methodology, Dr. Mubarik Ali Shah Gilani who stated that this young man had been violating the laws of Almighty God and this had subsequently led to his sin taking form and plaguing him. This violation of the immutable laws of God, as outlined by our beloved prophet Jesus son of the chaste Mary (peace be upon them both), can potentially cause any of humanity—regardless of creed or religion—to suffer similarly. Mr. Laville had thus opened himself to these attacks.

Ms. Laville was instructed to take her son to a psychiatrist to obtain a medical diagnosis. She visited the Binghamton General Hospital where a psychiatrist diagnosed him with a Mood Disorder NOS (Not Otherwise Specified). He was told these symptoms were due to extreme stress and was prescribed Tylenol and Benadryl. Upon hearing this Dr. Mubarik Gilani was outraged at these constant misguided efforts on behalf of doctors who continue to propagate grossly inappropriate treatment for psychiatric issues. Less than 30 minutes later Dr. Gilani called and spoke with the patient asking him if he was ready to confess his sins. The boy replied in the affirmative and began to relate things he had done that violated Islamic tenets in and out of the household. It must be noted that although this may appear to be like a confessional, the objective is not for the confession itself but for the curing ability that the admission conveys on an esoteric plane. The patient had to swear never to commit these activities again. He was then asked if he was ready to be cured for which the patient replied in the affirmative. A supplication known as Dua Karima (La ilaha illa anta subhanaka inni kuntu mena dhalimeen) was recited and Dr. Mubarik ordered the entity to leave the patient’s body. He said in a raised voice, “Leave his body! You have no right to be in his body!” He said, “on behalf of the covenant of Suleiman (peace be upon him), leave this boy, for he has sought and has received forgiveness from God Almighty.” He then said, “if you do not leave this boy’s body, then I will come and take a tight hold of you myself as I take my work very seriously, and I am very good at doing it!!” The entity thus departed! As noted by Dr. Adams, the boy showed immediate changes in behavior. He was immediately relieved of his feelings of heaviness, fear and paranoia. He was told that in order for the treatment to continue to be effective he must:

1. Take an oath never to commit the acts and behaviors that have led to this issue

2. Complete a fifteen day course of invocations (of la ilaha illallah), contemplation of the personal name of Almighty God and recitation of the Holy Quran that is to begin at 5 a.m.

Muhayyadin slept very peacefully that evening. This was welcomed for he hadn’t slept well for many weeks. Ms. Laville has been instructed to follow up with the psychiatrist to offer evidence that proves that these psychiatrists have in fact become executioners. Why is their recourse always to attempt the treatment of mental conditions with organic or physical means like Tylenol, and Benadryl, or other over-the-counter drugs, when this is clearly not merely a physical ailment? They prescribe these drugs without knowledge of the true cause, or true comprehension of the symptoms. Therefore this renders any attempt at treatment or curing ineffective.

As a very kind gesture, the family prepared food and distributed it to members of the community and offered extra prayers as a way of thanking God Almighty for relieving their family member of his affliction. Additionally, they thanked God Almighty for sending His viceroy, Dr. Mubarik Gilani, who does ALL he can to help humanity without seeking anything in return. He does all for the pleasure of the Almighty Creator.

I must admit that the western-medically trained part of me cannot fathom many of the details of this case or the mechanism by which many aspects of EGM really work. I used to be conflicted with this, but by the grace and mercy of God the confusion has been lifted. I believe the problem has to do with the fact that I was attempting to fit what has occurred into the current paradigm of the science involved in my training. Moreover, I believe this was and continues to be the misconception of current psychiatry and of those brilliant psychiatrists who witnessed the successful EGM experiments in Taif, Saudi Arabia when Dr. Gilani first presented this methodology in a scientifically controlled, researched environment. But herein lies the problem. The objective of the current underlying theme of science is to prove that God doesn’t exist and to eliminate Him from any of its precepts. This is seen at the constant objection and antagonism to religion that scientific investigation usually involves. Additionally, much money and effort is put into proving that humans can do what God can do. So because we have the ability to clone cells or do in vitro fertilization, this is equated to our ability to create. This in fact is preposterous for all we are doing in that regard, is taking already created raw materials and putting them in the vicinity of each other thus allowing natural processes to take over.

Many will read this article and not be able to grasp what has occurred. The key is to be a true scientist and be willing to explore the possibilities. If one can conceive that there may be an aspect of science that hasn’t truly been explored, then this is possible. I say this as a proponent of Sufic science ideology which is the understanding of created things as a reflection of the attributes of God as perceived by those who are in tune with Him. This perception cannot be learned and is endowed upon the person by the grace and mercy of the Creator. Current scientific knowledge is based on the perception of the nature of things created, as perceived by man. As this is the case, one may improve the chances for reaching this level of discernment with efforts to prove to the Creator that you are so inclined in this direction of understanding.  Conversely, the current perception of scientific knowledge is based on the nature of things created as perceived by man. The very nature of this idea attempts to exclude the Creator from the equation and in doing so, limits the scope in understanding the reality of created things. When the above mentioned events are viewed from a Sufic scientific perspective, the label of supernatural or inconceivable can be removed and one can see that EGM makes absolute sense. And as always, Only by God, the Almighty and All Glorious, can we be healed.

In the midst of Islamophobia and the media’s repeated attempts to depict Islam as a religion which leads mankind to aggression and negativity, the world has forgotten or simply turned a blind eye and deaf ear to the great contributions made to the civilized world by renowned Muslims scientists, scholars, mathematicians, philosophers, physicians and inventors.  At one time, when Europe was still climbing out of the Dark Ages, those seeking education and enlightenment turned towards the Muslims.

One such scientist was Abu Ali al-Husayn Ibn Abdullah Ibn Sina, born in Bukhara in 980. Sometimes known in the West by the Latin name, Avicenna, this Persian physician became the most famous and influential of all the Islamic philosopher-scientists. He earned royal favor for treating the Kings of Bukhara and Hamadan for ailments other physicians could neither diagnosis nor cure. His grave is still maintained in Hamadan, where he passed in 1037. Though trained as a physician, Ibn Sina made important contributions to philosophy, mathematics, chemistry, and astronomy.

Ibn Sina’s most enduring legacy was in the field of medicine. His most famous book, Qanun fi’l-tibb (“The Canon of Medicine”) is still one of the most important medical books ever written, and served as the medical authority throughout Europe for 600 years. Among the Canon’s contributions to modern medicine was the recognition that tuberculosis is contagious; diseases can spread through water and soil; and a person’s emotional health influences his or her physical health. Ibn Sina was also the first physician to describe meningitis, parts of the eye, and the heart valves, and he found that nerves were responsible for perceived muscle pain. He also contributed to advancements in anatomy, gynecology, and pediatrics.

This massive general medical encyclopaedia was composed over a lengthy period of time as its author moved westward from Gurgaon in northern Iran, where it began, to Rayy near modern Tehran and then to Hamadan even further southwest, where it was completed. The sheer size of the encyclopaedia tended to reinforce its authoritative nature, and even its title “Qānūn” meaning "canon" or "codes of law", contributed to this view.

The Canon consists of five "books". The first book (Kitāb), also called al-kulliyat , concerns general medical principles and often circulated separately from the rest of the encyclopedia, especially in Europe. The second book is on simple drugs and materia medica, in alphabetical order. The third is on therapy, arranged in order of the site of the ailment from head to toe, in 22 chapters (funun). The fourth book is on those diseases not restricted to a single part of the body, such as fevers. The final book presents recipes for compound remedies.

Due to its enormous size, relatively few complete copies are preserved in either the original Arabic or in Latin. The National Library of Medicine has one of the few complete copies.

There is no modern European-language translation of the entire Canon. A translation of the first book only, made from the medieval Latin version and not directly from the Arabic, was published by Cameron Gruner, “A Treatise on the Canon of Medicine of Avicenna Incorporating a Translation of the First Book” (London, 1930), and a translation of the first book only, made from an Urdu translation and also not directly from the Arabic, was published by Mazhar H. Shah, “The General Principles of Avicenna's Canon of Medicine” (Karachi: Naveed Clinic, 1966).

Many of us grow old before our time.  The worries of this world overwhelm us.  We are always aspiring for something worldly that is far reaching.  It takes us away from our true focus, Almighty Allah.  One hundred years ago, the life expectancy for men was 48 and for women 52.  Today, we outlive our ancestors because life isn’t as hard.  Years ago people walked long distances, which of course, kept them in shape.  Today, we walk very little.  As our bodies change, so do our organs inside.  Our heart rate becomes slightly slower, and our hearts may even become bigger.  Our blood vessels and arteries also become stiffer, which causes the heart to work harder.  Often times, this leads to hypertension and other cardiovascular problems. What can we do to improve our aging and get the best quality of life as well?

Understanding how your body works is a step in the right direction.  Let’s look at an overview of how the body works.

Our Cardiovascular System, bones, joints and muscles

A healthy heart needs oxygen, and the best oxygen is obtained through breathing deeply.  Exercise such as walking, running, stepping in place, playing catch and throwing the ball over your head are all activities that force you to breathe deeper, if done long enough.  Healthy foods play their part also.  Wild salmon, blueberries, spinach, cumin, cinnamon, sweet potatoes, green tea, and nuts are all good foods for overall aging.

When we age, the bones tend to shrink in size and density, which weakens them and makes them more susceptible to fracture. You might even become a bit shorter. Muscles generally lose strength and flexibility, and you might become less coordinated or have trouble balancing. To promote bone, joint and muscle health:

  • Get adequate amounts of calcium. For adults ages 19 to 50 and men ages 51 to 70, the Institute of Medicine recommends 1,000 milligrams (mg) of calcium a day. The recommendation increases to 1,200 mg a day for women age 51 and older and men age 71 and older. Natural sources of calcium include organic dairy products, almonds, broccoli, kale, wild salmon, parsley, sage, basil, dark leafy vegetables, thyme and fresh sardines.

  • Get adequate amounts of vitamin D. For adults ages 19 to 70, the Institute of Medicine recommends 600 international units (IU) of vitamin D a day. The recommendation increases to 800 IU a day for adults age 71 and older. When using supplements, make sure they are of vegetable sources.  Many people get adequate amounts of vitamin D from sunlight, this might not be a good enough source for everyone. Other sources of vitamin D include oily fish, such as tuna and sardines, the herbs horsetail, nettle, alfalfa and parsley, egg yolks and vitamin D-fortified organic milk.

  • Include physical activity in your daily routine. Weight-bearing exercises, such as walking, jogging, tennis and climbing stairs, and strength training can help you build strong bones and slow bone loss.

Our Digestive System

Constipation is more common in older adults. Many factors can contribute to constipation, including a low-fiber diet, not drinking enough fluids and lack of exercise. Medications such as diuretics and iron supplements and certain medical conditions such as diabetes and irritable bowel syndrome may also contribute to constipation.  To prevent constipation:

  • Eat a healthy diet. Make sure your diet includes high-fiber foods, such as fruits, vegetables and whole grains. Limit meats that are:  high in fat, dairy products and sweets, which might cause constipation. Drink plenty of water and other fluids.

  • Include physical activity in your daily routine. Regular physical activity can help prevent constipation and is important for your overall health.

  • Don't ignore the urge to have a bowel movement. Holding in a bowel movement for too long can cause constipation.

  • Use Herbal supplements such as;

A mixture of the following herbs brewed into a tea

  • 3 tsp.  powdered psyllium husk

  • 2 tsp.  dandelion root

  • 2 tsp.  senna pods crushed

  • 1tsp.  ginger root

  • 1tsp.  licorice root

Our Bladder and Urinary Tract

Loss of bladder control (urinary incontinence) is common with aging. Medical conditions, such as diabetes, might contribute to incontinence — as can menopause, for women, and an enlarged prostate, for men.
To promote bladder and urinary tract health:

Losing weight is a very good beginning.  Getting enough magnesium in the diet (peppers, bananas ALL ORGANIC), vitamin D from sunlight and cutting out the caffeine.  You will be surprised to learn that caffeine is in energy water drinks.  Pure drinking water is your best choice.  Staying hydrated is a must throughout life and especially in you.our later years,. drinking more water and staying hydrated.  A few herbs that are helpful are saw palmetto, pumpkin seeds, pumpkin seed oil, and extract.

Our Memory

Memory tends to becomes less efficient with age. It might take longer to learn new things or remember familiar words or names. To keep your memory sharp:

  • Eat a healthy diet. A heart healthy diet might benefit your brain. Focus on fruits, vegetables and whole grains. Choose low-fat protein sources, such as fish, lean meat and skinless poultry. What you drink counts, too.  Herbs to help are ginkgo biloba, st john’s wort, and alfalfa.

  • Include physical activity in your daily routine. Physical activity increases blood flow to your whole body, including your brain. This might help keep your memory sharp.

  • Drink pure clean water, there is no replacing it.  It is easier to dehydrate when you are older.  Make a point of drinking lots of good clean water.  Avoid bottled water as much as possible.  There are a ton of harmful chemicals in the water and the plastic.  It is most often tap water in a bottle.  It is important to have a pure water source.  It affects healing and good health in general.

  • Stay mentally active. Mentally stimulating activities help keep your brain in shape.  Read Holy Quran and listen to it.  Play games with your grandchildren.  Crochet, knit, grow a garden, paint or do crossword puzzles. Take alternate routes when driving.

  • Be social. Social interaction helps ward off depression and stress, which can contribute to memory loss. Look for opportunities to get together with loved ones, friends and others.  Open up and share your life with others.

Finally, there was a study done on 678 elderly nuns between the ages of 74- 104.  During this study, which ended barbarically (because they did autopsies on all of the deceased), they found that these women were extremely energetic and looked younger than their actual ages. Here are their findings;  AD stands for Alzheimer’s Disease.

  • High linguistic ability in early life seems to protect against AD.

  • Lifestyles can affect one's chances for a mentally healthy old age.

  • A positive attitude and spirit, involvement in community, and faith contribute to health and longevity.

This is no secret.  Living a healthy, happy life can be obtained by doing your daily worship rituals.  These poor women were used as guinea pigs for the pleasure of demented scientists.  Fast food is the killer of many, as we now know.  Stay away from all processed foods.  Love your community and work for it.  Play with your grandchildren, take an interest in their Islamic education - they are our future.  Stay active in your community, learn new things and help everyone who needs your help, solely for the Sake of Allah.  Learn to love, and be loved in return.

Is there a correlation between pitocin and Autism?  Researchers at Duke University are now putting the pieces together.  They say that evidence points to pitocin, as a possible cause of Autism.    The use of pitocin to induce labor has been steadily climbing for the past 20 years- about the same time period as the increase in Autism has been reported.    In 1992, a survey by the medical anthropologists at the University of Texas found that 81% of women in U.S hospitals receive pitocin to either induce labor or augment labor.  Currently, public health authorities have identified an enormous increase in the incidences of childhood Autism.  In California, the number of kids receiving state services for autistic disorder has nearly quadrupled since 1987.   The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists say they feel that pitocin may cause serious health concerns for the newborn.

So what is pitocin and what is its origin?  In 1953, the Parke-Davis pharmaceutical company developed the drug, which is a synthetic substance that mimics the natural hormone oxytocin.  The body makes oxytocin naturally, and is produced during breast feeding (causing the letdown of milk), and during company and privacy, it is produced by men and women.  It aids in emotional bonding and social interactions.  The artificial oxytocin substance called pitocin, comes from the pituitary glands of cattle and is a widely used drug, used during labor and delivery.    There is  nationwide and worldwide pitocin abuse, with the rate of Autism climbing right along beside it.  Remember -  there are side effects to all pharmaceutical drugs.  Here are 18 reasons to avoid pitocin.  These are warnings from the manufactures themselves, to the public, about their product:

18. Pitocin, just like any drug, can cause a severe allergic reaction called anaphylaxis, which causes hives, difficulty breathing and swallowing, heart palpitations, and can lead to death.

17. There is an increased risk of postpartum hemorrhage after Pitocin-augmented births.

16. Pitocin can disrupt the normal heartbeat of the mother, causing reactions such as cardiac arrhythmia or premature ventricular contractions, a condition where the person experiences irregular or ‘skipped’ heartbeats and/or palpitations.

15. Another risk of Pitocin is pelvic hematoma, a blood clot or even larger area of blood in the soft tissue of the pelvis.

14. Pitocin has an antidiuretic effect on the body, meaning it increases the absorption of water. This leads to the risk of water intoxication, especially when there are additional fluids such as saline in the IV or lots of water to drink. There have been cases of women suffering severe cases, including coma and even death, during pitocin-induced labor.

13. Pitocin can cause a hypertensive episode in the mother. This basically means a sudden surge in blood pressure, and if the elevation is severe enough, it can cause a heart attack or stroke.

12. Fatal afibrinogenemia is another listed side effect of Pitocin. In everyday language, this translates to slow, uncontrollable bleeding that results in death.

11. Women have died from uncontrolled high blood pressure, bleeding on the brain, water intoxication, hemorrhage, and uterine rupture after the use of Pitocin during the first and second stages of labor.

10. There have been no studies to examine the carcinogenicity or mutagenicity of Pitocin. In layman’s terms, we have no idea if this drug causes cancer or causes cells to change in any way.

9. We have no idea what kind of effect Pitocin has on a woman’s future fertility, let alone the fertility of her newborn baby.

8. The deaths of babies, for a variety of reasons, have been associated with the use of Pitocin during labor.

7. Pitocin has been associated with heart problems in the newborn, such as bradycardia (slow heartbeat), premature ventricular contractions, and other arrhythmias.

6. Cases of permanent damage to the newborn’s brain or central nervous system have been documented as a result of Pitocin-induced births {could they have conveniently left out the illness by the name of Autism here}.

5. Pitocin during labor is associated with low scores on the five minute Apgar test, the newborn exam that looks at alertness, respiratory, and circulatory health.

4. Retinal hemorrhage, a common symptom of shaken baby syndrome, can be caused by the physical force of a Pitocin-induced birth.

3. Increased risk of newborn jaundice is associated with Pitocin.

2. Hypertonic (excessively strong) contractions, and tetanic (prolonged) contractions are some of the most common side effects of Pitocin overdose. If the contractions are coming so fast that there’s no resting time in between, the dose is too high. And this leads to my number 1 reason to say no to this drug, because it seems that far too often, an inappropriately high dosage is given.

1. Overdose of Pitocin is characterized by an even more frightening list of symptoms, including cervical and vaginal lacerations, deceleration of the baby’s heart rate, postpartum hemorrhage, fetal hypoxia (oxygen deprivation), and even organ failure and death in the mother or baby.

There are always risks involved when we interrupt the natural flow of childbirth. Many doctors feel nothing should be administered during childbirth, because it could damage the fetus.  The list of dangerous and fatal complications from using pitocin is very long.  New findings suggest pitocin causes Autism.  Is it possible that flooding the immature body of a fetus (especially boys) with gender-specific synthetic hormones from animals, could somehow interfere with the functions of their psychological systems?  We really  need to think about this.  Also interesting to note is that in the early 1990’s, the Midwife Alliance of North America (MANA) embarked upon a statistical study, which spanned 20 years. They used nationally certified professional midwives.  They compiled statistics on 15,000 births.  All of the births were unmedicated during labor, and surprisingly - none of the children were Autistic. So - does the use of Pitocin cause….Autism?

Many people are unfamiliar with the disease malaria. While not as common as many illnesses, it has, however, shown its face to many travelers. Although it is not contagious, malaria kills nearly 3 million people worldwide every year. The disease is spread by mosquitoes which are infected with the malaria parasite. The parasite is found in the red blood cells and can be transmitted through a blood transfusion. New studies indicate it may also be transmitted from a mother to her unborn child before or during delivery -which is called congenital malaria.

Malaria, or diseases resembling it, have been noted for more than 4000 years. It became widely recognized in Greece by the fourth century and was responsible for the decline of many city and state populations.

During the seventeenth century, Spanish Jesuit missionaries in South America learned of a medicinal bark from neighboring Indian tribes: the Peruvian bark, from which quinine is derived. It is still one of the most effective anti-malaria cures available.

The symptoms of malaria can begin 10 days to four weeks before the onset. In some people, it can take nearly a year for the symptoms to begin. Some symptoms are flu like: shaking, fever, chills, tiredness, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, anemia, headaches and muscle aches. There are sometimes jaundice symptoms due to the loss of red blood cells. If not properly treated, malaria could cause kidney failure, mental confusion, coma -it can be fatal. There are many malaria drugs on the market now that are very effective. However, since this is the Hakeemah’s Corner we will give herbal treatments and only natural remedies.

I. Start with a grapefruit juice fast for 5 to 10 days. Grapefruit contains natural quinine. During this period, take grapefruit juice diluted with water every two hours during the day and cleanse the bowels daily with a warm water enema.

II. Then, continue with an all-fruit diet for a further three days, with three meals a day of fresh juicy fruits at five-hour intervals.

III. Thereafter, adopt the following diet:

Upon rising: A glass of lukewarm water mixed with half a freshly squeezed lime and a teaspoon of honey.

Breakfast: Fresh fruits and a cup of organic milk sweetened with honey.

Lunch: A bowl of steamed vegetables, whole wheat tortilla and organic buttermilk.

Mid afternoon: A glass of fresh fruit or vegetable juice.

Extra help for this illness can be obtained when a grapefruit is quartered, boiled strained for its pulp and consumed. Limes and lemons are beneficial in the treatment of reducing fever. About three grams of lime should be dissolved in 60 ml. of water with the juice of one lemon added to the mix. This water should be taken before the onset of the fever.

Cinnamon is regarded as an effective cure for all types of colds, including malaria. It should be coarsely powdered and boiled in a glass of water with a pinch of pepper powder and honey. There are other herbs that are very helpful including a mixture of equal portions of neem, also known as Indian Lilac, powder; amla , or gooseberry, powder and wormwood powder.

Separately, and of interest, is that malaria, like dengue, carries no class or racial stigma. There have been many famous names who have contracted the illness, such as: Alexander the Great, US President George Washington, Ghandi, Davy Crockett, President John F. Kennedy and Attila the Hun.

Technology is causing havoc to our health and longevity. We have become dependent on the use of numerous devices -including microwaves. Research, however, has shown that micro-waves are harmful to our health. Undoubtedly, technology holds great promise; yet, technology often separates us from Nature and natural living, and many of us have a tendency to over use, and abuse these technological wonders to the point of ill health.

Extensive research and experiments on micro-wave use were conducted in Russia, where the microwave oven was banned in 1976 due to its harmful effects on human health.

Allah is our Protector and is Ever-Present, but it is our duty to maintain our health, and to be aware of the effects of harmful substances or objects. Millions of people are unknowingly sacrificing their health in exchange for convenience, when daily chores can be quickly and easily accomplished without technology that is harmful. It is important to not blindly follow without fully understanding the possible outcome.

Over 90% of American families prepare meals using microwave ovens, believing that microwave cooking is safe for the food, and for their health. Convenient and more energy efficient than conventional ovens, very few homes or restaurants are without them, yet, it is far more dangerous to the human body than anyone could imagine!

Microwaves are a form of electromagnetic energy, like light waves or radio waves, and occupy a part of the electromagnetic spectrum of power, or energy. Microwaves are very short waves of electromagnetic energy that travel at the speed of light (186,282 miles per second). In our modern technological age, microwaves are used to relay long distance telephone signals, television programs, and computer information across the earth, or to a satellite in space. But the microwave is most familiar to us as an energy source for cooking food. In actuality, a microwave oven decays and changes the molecular structure of the food by the process of radiation. Had the manufacturers accurately called them “radiation ovens”, it’s doubtful they would have ever sold one.

Some studies report that microwaving food is not the same as irradiating it (radiation treatment), claiming the two processes use completely different waves of energy and at different intensities. Many of these studies have proven inaccurate. As consumers, we should have common sense and use our judgment. If you want to have better health, choose to eat natural, unprocessed foods.

Here are more reasons to throw away (best choice), or at least limit use of microwaves;

1). Continually eating microwaved food causes long term - permanent - brain damage by shorting out electrical impulses in the brain, de-polarizing or de-magnetizing the brain tissue.

2). The human body cannot metabolize, or break down, the unknown by-products created in microwaved food.

3). Male and female hormone production is stopped and/or altered by continually eating microwaved foods.

4). Eating microwaved food causes loss of memory, concentration, emotional instability, a decrease of intelligence, and the effects are residual (permanent) within the human body.

5). Minerals, vitamins, and nutrients of microwaved food are reduced or altered so the human body gets little or no benefit, or absorbs altered compounds that cannot be broken down.

6). The minerals in vegetables are altered into cancerous free radicals when cooked in microwave ovens.

7). Microwaved foods cause stomach and intestinal cancerous growths (tumors), perhaps explaining the rapidly increased rate of colon cancer in America.

8). Continual ingestion of microwaved food causes immune system deficiencies through lymph gland and blood serum alterations, and causes cancerous cells in human blood to increase.

Fasting is prescribed for us.  Allah has ordained a month specifically for fasting and remembrance of Him.  Our bodies are designed to clean themselves and heal themselves ritually every Blessed Ramadan.  This internal house cleaning is necessary to keep us healthy and vibrant.  Fasting provides the perfect condition for the body to heal itself.  Fasting gives the brain and the nervous system a break; it also clears and strengthens the mind.  It gives the vital organs a complete rest.  It increases the powers of digestion, and allows the organs of elimination to do their jobs.  Nutritionists and health experts are very concerned about supplying the body with enough food; however, they give little attention to the damage brought on by too much food, and too little attention to the elimination of waste.  To many people, food means love, security, and comfort.  They mentally believe they cannot live without it.  They indulge and over-indulge; but what exactly happens when you fast?

1.    The body breaks down fats faster.

2.    The blood flows quicker to other organs, and tissues are repaired faster.

3.    The digestive process rejuvenates itself, and it boost the immune system.

4.    By giving the internal organs a rest, this gives them the opportunity to rebuild their strength.

5.    We eliminate waste from the blood quicker which increases the body’s ability to dissolve clots.

6.    White blood cells destroy bacteria better.

Most people overeat and don’t exercise.  This pattern of dietary destruction continues daily for 365 days a year.  While fasting we must remember our Lord and be thankful to Him for caring enough about us to give us a month of reflection. Spiritually and physically, we need all the help we can get, and Ramadan is the cure.  When fasting, the body can remove chemicals and toxins responsible for a wide variety of diseases.  A very big problem with eating is usually too much fat, sugar, and salt. All of the above items are deadly in excess.  By using fat as an example, we will explain how in excess it harms our systems. First, it enters the blood stream, then the cellular spaces, and then it enters the cells.   When the cells become overloaded with excess fat, this causes stagnation, cell degeneration, inflammation and sometime toxemia. Fasting helps us to revive, rejuvenate and heal.  Restoration of health and purification of self are the goals for all during this blessed month.

Here are two Ramadan treats I found that should be made with the most wholesome and organic ingredients you can find. In moderation, we will find success.  Ramadan Kareem

1/4 cup sugar

1/2 cup fresh coconut, scraped

5 cardamoms, ground

4 cups full cream milk
What you do:

Wash, peel and grate sweet potatoes. Cook in milk till it turns soft and the mixture thickens. Then add sugar, cardamom powder and coconut and cook for a few minutes. Serve hot or cold. This kheer looks like vermicelli kheer and tastes excellent.

High fructose is a source of sugar with a hidden agenda.  It’s been used for many years and wreaks havoc in the system.  All sugars are not equal, and please keep in mind that all sugars- in excess- are harmful.   If you apply reason to your diet, you will conclude that caution and scrutiny are required with every morsel you consume.  What you eat causes the majority of your illnesses.  The main ingredient used to destroy our good health for the past century has been sugar.  High fructose corn syrup (HRCS), is the worst.  Our bodies are designed to use glucose (simple sugars) to energize all of our cells.  Basically, every living creature on earth uses glucose for energy.  When we eat foods containing sugars and starch (carbohydrates), our body digests these foods, breaking them down into glucose, which is used to power our cells.  Our small intestine releases glucose into the blood stream.  Our body then responds and releases insulin, which allows glucose to be taken in our cells.  When we take in too much glucose, our body stores the rest for later use, or as fat.  Fructose works differently in the body.  When we eat foods containing fructose, the fructose goes to the liver and does not enter the blood stream, and therefore, our blood sugar levels do not rise in response.  This fact gives fructose low-glycemic properties, however this doesn’t make it healthy.  Fructose is claimed to be a safer alternative for diabetics.  However, they leave out the fact that fructose is processed in the liver, as is alcohol; it is then converted to fat and triglycerides.  Triglycerides are stored fats.  Fructose increases triglyceride levels.  This raises the cholesterol level and promotes heart disease.  It also increases the work load of the liver.  When fructose is metabolized by the liver, the pancreas does not produce the normal amount of insulin. As a result, fructose promotes disease more readily than glucose, and it interferes with the heart’s use of key minerals like magnesium, copper, and chromium.  Daily consumption of fructose is linked to the following illnesses:  diabetes, organ damage, obesity, non- alcoholic fatty liver disease, hypertension, heart disease, elevates liver enzymes and uric acid levels (which is worse than elevating your cholesterol), and gout - to name a few.  Fructose does not increase insulin levels; however, it radically increases insulin resistance, which is very dangerous.

Fructose is not a fruit; it is a commercial, refined sugar, and a man-made poison.  To try to metabolize fructose daily destroys the metabolism.  It is difficult to maintain balance or order.  When, because of daily use, you become sensitized to fructose, your body inherits its toxic effects as well.  Fructose, in excess, is the real problem.  Our bodies were not designed to process such large amounts of it.  Fruit drinks, soda, candies, cakes, breads and the new and popular scam, Agave, are all sources of fructose.  The agave plant in its natural state is anti-inflammatory, anti- bacterial and an immune booster; it does require processing to become edible.  However, after the extensive processing from manufacturers, its medicinal properties are stripped and the end result is a product with the highest fructose content of any commercial sweetener.  It should be avoided like the plague.  It is equally important to avoid foods that cause you harm - stop eating processed foods!  Drink more water.  Add one tablespoon of vinegar to a glass of water in the morning and cleanse your systems.  Bake your own bread, and make your own candy and you will know what you are eating.

Abdur Rahim is a 21 year old male with no past medical history of diabetes, high blood pressure, kidney disease or any chronic illness. He has always had normal eyesight and never required glasses for vision. After returning from studies abroad,  he complained of blurred vision that progressively worsened, presenting to an eye specialist when he was unable to see the most beautiful, soothing words of the Holy Qur’an, or decipher the familiar faces of loved ones.

An  opthamologist’s evaluation  revealed bleeding behind the eye and cloudy spots. The eye doctors were unable to connect his  symptoms with any known eye disease and  suggested that he immediately arrange  to visit the renowned Will’s Eye Hospital in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, U.S.  Abdur Rahim made an appointment to be seen the following week, and immediately forwarded the details of his case to His Eminence Sheikh Syed Mubarik Ali Shah Gilani, who has treated and healed scores of people suffering from  incurable diseases by means of his unique treatment methodology utilizing special prayers, acts of worship, and blessed lines of the Holy Qur’an.

On the advisement of El Sheikh Gilani, Abdur Rahim began receiving Quranic Therapy (QT) treatments utilizing the El-Gilani Methodology, and reported that he had nausea after the first and subsequent QT treatments.

When he arrived at Will’s Eye Hospital the following week, he was immediately transferred to the emergency room at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia with a dangerously elevated blood pressure of 216/160, requiring immediate hospitalization and acute medical attention.  Once admitted to the medical unit, a much more aggressive medical workup was initiated. On further evaluation , it was noted that Abdur Rahim complained of nausea, weakness,  and occasional nightmares.

During this frightening time for Abdur Rahim, and overwhelming concern by family members, the patient never lost focus on Allah, the Almighty Creator, and immediately turned his trust toward Allah, The Most Exalted, The Healer and Sustainer.

Guidance was sought on hospital day one (HD #1) from our Perfect Murshid Sheikh Syed Mubarak Ali Shah Gilani. Using the El-Gilani Methodology (EGM), a new prescription was established and implemented before any major medical management was started.  Dr. Abdul Wadud, a specially trained and experienced EGM therapist,  met Abdur Rahim at Thomas Jefferson Hospital, where

he  was started on intravenous medication to assist in lowering his severely elevated blood pressures, and had extensive laboratory and imaging studies performed. Abdur Rahim was diagnosed with chronic kidney disease (CKD) by the kidney specialist. CKD has many causes,  the most common is diabetes, the second most common cause is long-standing, uncontrolled high blood pressure. An inflammation of the kidneys’ filtering system is another common cause. However, the nephrologist was unable to identify why Abdur Raheem  was experiencing CKD that had advanced to kidney failure in such a short time, without any symptoms. Apparently,  his problem was within the kidneys’ filtering system; all other laboratory tests  showed negative results.

The patient stated, following his first night of treatment via the EGM, “I had the most pleasant night in a long time. In my dreams, I was actually able to see myself smiling.”  Dr. Abdul Wadud continued his twice-a-day prescribed treatment over Abdur Rahim, which consisted of special prayers  ( duas). As stated by the patient, and witnessed by his guardian, Dr. Abdul Wadud, and the kidney doctors, his uremic symptoms began to resolve almost as soon as the therapy began. On HD #2, the patient was no longer experiencing nausea, his blood pressure had normalized to 113/60, and his vision began to return. Dr. Abdul Wadud stated, “It gave me great happiness when I noticed the positive changes in  Abdur Rahim’s condition.”

The physicians  soon mentioned  releasing him home to the care of his loving guardian, due to the marked signs of improvement. His intravenous anti-hypertensive medicines were discontinued and transitioning to oral blood pressure medications. Abdur Raheem’s guardian described  his mood as good,  in lieu of his relief from much discomfort and uncertainty.

It is suspected that Abdur Rahim’s kidneys started weakening several years back; however, the true etiology of the kidney disease is unestablished.  The prescribed El-Gilani Methodology treatments took affect immediately. While Dr. Abdul Wadud recited the duas and simultaneously placed a hand on the patient’s chest, the patient acknowledged that he had to fan himself because of the increased heat sensation over his heart, and the warmth in the room itself, compared to that right outside the room.

Mr. Rahim’s limited kidney function, without symptoms, is uncommon. The kidney specialist surmised that the patient will require hemodialysis  within the next 6 months, and that only a miracle would defer that outcome. Also, the strong possibility of Abdur Rahim requiring  a kidney transplant down the line was discussed with his family.

His vision slowly returned, and he began reading the food menus, magazines, the Holy Qu’ran, or anything else he could get his hands on, elated and grateful to Almighty God for his miraculous recovery.  With each day of EGM treatment, the patient’s symptoms improved, permitting the medical team  to discharge the patient home, where he will continue the  therapy. “Which of the favors of thy Lord shall you deny?”

Our world has become very toxic, and our foods and water are also contaminated . On a daily basis, we compromise our health as we intake the toxins that are often hidden in the everyday foods and drinks that we consume. Thus, we too,  have made ourselves toxic.

How is our food contaminated? We often take for granted that if food products are on the store shelves, they are safe for us. How wrong we are to believe this myth. These unnutritious foods are ‘conveniently packaged‘ in toxic plastics, aluminums, and lead.  As a result, we are full of plastic, aluminum and lead, too.

In essence, we are entrapped in a form of enslavement, with our health consumed by these harmful products, masked as food. By comparison, for centuries physical enslavement was a heinous crime wherein slaves were often mistreated, and done much mental harm. They were not treated as brothers, as was the custom in Islamic societies, instead they were treated like animals, no more than mere cattle. The unfortunate slaves would, rise, work, eat and sleep on command.  They had no say so in their personal affairs.  When freedom came to them, the slaves remained mentally dependent on mainstream thinking: trusting the media, indulging in popular foods, dress, entertainment and medical wonders as best they could afford.

When it comes to food, the same mentality exists today. We are again following and not rationalizing with regard to what is best for us.  Scientific studies show that the larger masses of this country are sick, sickness attributed to eating contaminated foods.

Here is a list of everyday food items proven to be quite harmful:

Potato chips, soda, unorganic coffee (acidic and too extreme for the body daily), mayonnaise, catsup, vegetable oils, butter (if you made it, you can trust it), all dairy (full of hormones), creamers (plastics and un-natural oils), white sugar (animal substances are inside it), brown sugar (same as white, shaded brown), splenda and aspartame (poison), white flour and all products made from it, all meats that are not organically grown,  cake mixes, canola oil, all soy products, gum, candies and most bottled water.

If you haven’t grown it, raised it, or made it, you do not know what you are eating. Let the truth be told.

What can you do about this now? To start, don’t continue to trust poisoned, processed toxic foods. Detox first; then replace them with live, whole foods and grains.  Here is an example of wholesome food replacements:

Sesame seeds, tahini paste, chappati bread, olive oil, grade B or C maple syrup, organic fresh fruits and vegetable eaten in their season only, organic honey that has not come from bees fed sugar, bean sprouts which can be grown in your homes, barley, wheat grass, apple cider vinegar (Bragg’s or any other organic vinegar, white vinegar is harmful), almonds, walnuts, un-sulfured dried fruits, organic meats raised on your farms, and herbs.

Herbs are concentrated whole foods that your body recognizes and absorbs readily.  They work slower on some individuals due to auto-intoxification (self induced pollution).  The quality of food you eat affects your life. To ensure your future, and the safety of your children, your diets must change for the better.

Slaves ate the worst provisions on the plantation. How much farther have we come?

The Vice Chancellor of International Qur’anic Open University at Islamberg, New York, and chairman of the Abdul Qadir Gillani Institute of Sufic Sciences at Islamville, South Carolina scientifically demonstrated the miraculous powers of Holy Qur’an. He has proven the healing effects of Holy Qur’an on human and non human beings, as well as plants.

This is a rebuttal to extremist Wahhabis who deny the miraculous powers of Holy Qur’an and bring a lie against Almighty God. They also bring lies against our great Sheikh, who helped Saudi Arabia to solve their problems via Holy Quran. When the government of Saudi Arabia accepted the challenge of the World Health Organization (W.H.O.) to demonstrate the healing powers of Holy Qur’an as a means of alternative remedy for incurable mental and physical diseases, their scholars such as Sheikh Abu Sadir Maudoudi made excuses and refused to come forward and assist. Then our Sheikh, El Sheikh Syed Mubarik Ali Gilani Qadri El Hashmi, came forward and accommodated their request, accepting the challenge of  the W.H.O. The results: patients suffering from various previously incurable mental and physical diseases were healed. This is because of the miraculous power of  the Holy Qur’an, the final Divine Revelation from Almighty God. It was in Saudi Arabia that our Sheikh and  great Sufi Master was declared Imam of Sufic Science.

Those interested should read the books Qur’anic Psychiatry and the Ultimate Fraud of the Freudists, available at the bookstore in the village of Islamberg, New York. The following is an excerpt from Qur’anic Psychiatry, written by El Sheikh Syed Mubarik Ali Shah Gilani, which explains the scientific experiment that undoubtedly confirmed the healing powers of the Holy Qur’an; followed by the translation of an article by Hamaad Al Salmi containing a report on the success of Qur’anic Psychiatry by the Saudi Arabian Government in the Daily Alnadawa.

Qur’anic Psychiatry

“And We have sent down in the Holy Qur’an that which has healing and mercy for the believers.” (Holy Qur’an)

For the first time in the history of medical science and the world: A scientific demonstration of the healing powers of the Holy Qur’an based on the El Jilani Methodology, in healing incurable mental diseases, conducted before a team of international researchers in Taif, Saudi Arabia (1976-77), once and for all disproving the baseless, pseudo-scientific theories of modern psychiatry and Freudism. Includes a report of the revival of a brain-dead patient in Germantown Hospital, PA, USA.

Unprecedented in medical History! Establishment of the first Institute of Qur’anic Therapy!

Healing through the Holy Qur’an has begun under scientifically controlled conditions for the first time in the world. A complete wing has been established in the Shahar Mental Hospital, Taif, where this type of therapy is being practiced. This project commenced last month under the supervision of a group of qualified doctors headed by Dr. Osama Radi. They heal various conditions through selected [lines] of the Holy Qur’an. Dr. Mubarik Jilani is the physician who has formulated Qur’anic Therapy. Dr. Munir Jaber is the assisting general physician and Professor Abdullah Tooyail controls the investigations’ developments and serves as the project registrar. Mrs. Elahi Daj is the project nurse. Another group of doctors and nurses are cooperating with the members of this undertaking.

Invitation to the Islamic Ulema and Ummah

Healing through the Holy Qur’an: This was the topic on which Sheikh Saleh bin Lehyan lectured last Monday, where many notables were present. This topic, for the first time, opens ways of such scientific investigations. The Honorable Sheikh has removed successfully all the doubts which were raised by some people about this therapy. Following this, details of the formation of the new project laid down a month ago in Shahar were narrated.

Al Nadwa reporter Hamaad Al Salmi wrote:

“I was thinking after the lecture that though this type of therapy has been known since the days of Rasulallah (sallallahu alayhi wasalaam), what would be its shape nowadays? Before I could put my question, Dr. Osama Radi announced that whosoever participated in the experiment should cooperate with the medical group to whom it has been assigned. But when would this wing be established? When would the healing start? What would be the results? What type of diseases would be cured? I asked many such questions, as I was eager to receive their immediate reply.”

Patient Suffering From Continuous Bouts of Epilepsy Healed Through Holy Qur’an

A person suffering from severe bouts of epilepsy, for one full month was rendered speechless, nor could he take any foods or liquids. He was unable to walk or attend to his own hygiene. With the first treatment of Qur’anic therapy, he showed immediate improvement. After the second treatment, the patient was able to speak and take meals. Normally, the conventional treatment for such a condition, with the use of electric shock and medicines, would take up to one full year to show improvement, yet this patient became normal in some weeks time. By the virtue of Allah’s Might, and the effect of Wisdom contained in the Holy Qur’an, clear results were achieved.

Experiment Conducted on Two Trees

During my visit to Pakistan, I met a friend of mine, Dr. Mubarik Jilani, who is a physician in the project. He conducted an experiment before witnesses, myself being one of them, using two plants  of the same species in the same soil. Dr Jilani  thereby recited [lines] of Holy Quran over one plant and something else over the other plant. The plant over which Holy Quran was read grew to double the size of the other in due course of time, although their nurturing and care was identical. This experiment concluded the demonstration of the effects of Holy Quranic [lines]on other living things.

How this Began

Dr. Osama Radi states “From 24th to 26th Safar, 1396 A.H., experimentation commenced in Cairo following an in-depth study at a conference sponsored by the World Health Organization (W.H.O.) whereby the significance of Quranic Therapy was recognized. The resolution was adopted to continue  research in this method of healing and present the findings at the next conference , InShaAllah. We were to present modern literary, scientific means to continue research, so that its discussion becomes reasonable.”

” Dr. Mubarik Jilani received many invitations from American institutions and universities while he was in Pakistan. These invitations were extended with the intent that he would continue his research development abroad.Dr. Osama further elaborated  “He (Dr. Jilani) wrote to me regarding going to America and completing the experiments there. I instructed him to carry on (at the institute in Taif). He is therefore working solely for Allah’s happiness, and is not taking any fees or salary.”

A Case of Chronic Madness

What are the states of chronic madness, and how can they best be healed? Foremost, chronic mental disorders and madness alike are subject to relapse if the patient discontinues the therapy or leaves his specialized outpatient treatment. In the case of one patient previously diagnosed as insane, Dr. Jilani read [lines] of Holy Quran over him and ordered the patient’s doses of medicine to be reduced gradually. At present, the patient has shown remarkable improvement and is completely drug- free. The patient had undergone extensive treatment with drugs, but displayed only insignificant changes in his behavior. The patient remained in a constant state of fear, which drugs did not relieve. These symptoms dissipated with each treatment of Quranic Therapy, allowing the patient to resume a happy life.

Dr Jilani’s Open invitation
Anyone who desired to witness demonstrations of the Quranic Therapy were invited by Dr. Jilani to visit the wing in Shahar Hospital specially established for the experiments. Dr. Jilani was confident in welcoming observers to witness and document the state of each patient under his care, before treatment and afterwards.

When neuroscientist Mohamed Ghilan researched the reason for unparalleled scientific discovery and advancement by Muslims during the golden age of Islam, he found a link between memorizing Holy Quran, improved thinking and scientific discovery. When learning Holy Quran the careful attention to listening and pronunciation stimulates an area of the brain in the temporal lobe which is the memory consolidation center. The more activation this area receives, such as what occurs when memorizing Holy Quran, the better and more efficient the temporal lobe becomes in its capacity for learning and memory. His findings shed new light on what some scientists have admitted was a rate of achievement by Muslims yet to be replicated anywhere in the world. In fact one non Muslim professor of a class on the History of Science stated that were it not for political problems and discord, Muslims would have reached the moon by the 1400’s.

This understanding about the Islamic education system that shaped the brains and thinking of a civilization has been spoken about by many Muslim religious scholars Mr Ghilan noted. The scholars often reflect that when Muslims were the leaders, the Holy Quran was at the centre of their education system. However when they abandoned the Holy Quran they lost their reign. Mr Ghilan’s study looked beyond the spiritual and moral aspect into what actually takes place in the brain. He was able to identify a long list of brain and other human functions that are enhanced by studying Holy Quran.

His information came from his teachers and reading the biographies of Traditional Muslim Scholars such as Ibn Rushd and Ibn Sina. Also he personally experienced how Muslims become scholars in the traditional Muslim world. Mr Ghilan has learnt that the very first thing taught to an aspiring student was the Quran. Holy Quran had to be memorized completely. The process of memorization involves Arabic “Tajweed” which meant that students had to pronounce letters and words correctly by learning how to generate letter sounds from the mouth or throat. They also had to place the tongue in the correct position. Then the “Quranic ayats” were written on a wooden board in the Othmani script following specific spelling rules which are different from regular Arabic writing. The student then left to memorize the “ayat”.

A beginning student repeated one verse several times from the board under his teacher’s guidance to memorize the spelling. This was written and repeated at home until the next day before returning to class. The student then repeated the verse accurately before receiving the next verse to memorize. On the third day the first ayat was repeated once, the second ayat multiple times and a third ayat was given to memorize. By day four the first ayat would have taken hold in the memory and was not repeated. The second verse replaced it for review and the memorization cycle was repeated until the end of the week when a complete review of all that was learnt was done.

Using this method of memorization and writing, the capacity for memory was increased over time. The student was then able to learn larger sections at a time. Eventually the entire Quran with over 6,236 ayats was memorized correctly in one mode of recitation. The student then had to review the entire Quran on a monthly basis so as not to forget it. Some students actually went on to learn all 10 modes of reciting Holy Quran. After the Holy Quran was mastered the brain was “trained” and students in their early teens went on to learn and excel in science and other fields of knowledge.

Some noteworthy features of the glorious Quran relate to its rhythmic sound. Ayats in the Quran rhyme and change rhythm often, which gives a pleasurable effect to the listener. Also the Quran is sung (recited?) rather than read as Tajweed forces the reciter to sing (in a rhythmic pattern/recitation) in order to enunciate the words accurately. This entire process has been linked to the brain by Mr Ghilan. He noted that the brain is a malleable organ that can change its connections and even the size of certain areas based on how active they become. Understanding how involved the brain of someone learning the Quran using the traditional Muslim method becomes, can explain how Muslims were able to achieve such success in their knowledge endeavors.

Listening and pronunciation during memorization stimulates the temporal lobe which contains the hippocampus- the memory centre of the brain. This is the same region used to process musical sounds such as occurs when Holy Quran is recited. Also as the student writes, the same region is activated thereby increasing the person’s aptitude for learning new information. As activation of this region increases it becomes better at learning and memorization.

Mr. Ghilan explained that the parietal lobes also become quite heavily engaged during memorization of Holy Quran. The left parietal lobe processes reading, writing and speech as well as math and logic problems. The right parietal lobe manages speech tone, which is related to elocution (pronunciation). It is also responsible for visuospatial relationships and understanding facial expressions. The front part is responsible for the sense of touch discrimination and recognition, which is active during handwriting. The back part plays an important role in attention. Both lobes are also activated during skill learning tasks. Generally the stimulation to the parietal lobes that could be derived from memorization of Holy Quran can result in better logic and math-solving skills, eloquence in speech and improved ability to read emotional states from facial cues. It can also improve the student’s attention and capacity for understanding visuospatial relationships. Improved visuospatial understanding can explain why Muslims were so good at astronomy.

Quranic recitation also strongly activates the frontal lobes and the primary motor cortex of the brain. The frontal lobes deal with higher order functions such as working memory, memory retrieval, speech production and written-word recognition, sustained attention, planning and social behavior. When a student was for example reading the Othamni script, his brain had to quickly decide on the proper pronunciation of the word and distinguish it from other possibilities. Remarkably with practice the brain will do these things without conscious control from the student. This trains the area of the brain responsible for inhibition, which is important for interacting with people. Studies have shown that children with ADHD have under-development in this area of the brain.

Additionally, the descriptions of individuals and places contained in Holy Quran activate the occipital lobes, which assist in generating mental imagery. This brain region is also important for visual perception. Increasing the capacity for mental imagery also indirectly improves visual perception capacities which are activated within the same region. The historical accounts, parables and logical arguments contained in Holy Quran also utilize different areas of the brain and help the brain to become more efficient and better connected due to the continual activation that occurs with consistent review sessions.

Today traditional methods of education are difficult to locate. Mr. Ghilan reported that he found this method of teaching Holy Quran among the Bedouin scholars in the Sahara desert of West Africa. They are brilliant. However because they do not have access to modern technology and science, their brilliance is limited to Islamic sciences. He suggested that the world needs a “Traditional Islamic Education/ Technology” hybrid programme that places the Holy Quran at the centre of the education system.

It has been recently reported by CNN that the new film in the Twilight movie series has induced in-theater seizures in many of the patrons who went to view it.  It was also CNN that last year reported that the film Avatar had a similar effect.  This phenomenon is not new however, for it has been connected to movies and video games in the past.  In 1997 thousands of school children reported to Japanese hospitals with epileptic activity as a result of watching an episode of the Pokémon cartoon.  The earliest of these incidents was reported in the 1980s when children playing the Nintendo gaming system began having seizures after playing a few of their games.  It occurred in such a frequency that it prompted the game maker to issue the following warning:   “WARNING: A very small portion of the population have a condition which may cause them to experience epileptic seizures or have momentary loss of consciousness when viewing certain kinds of flashing lights or patterns that are commonly present in our daily environment.…If you or your child experience any of the following symptoms: dizziness, altered vision, eye or muscle twitching, involuntary movements, loss of awareness, disorientation, or convulsions, DISCONTINUE USE IMMEDIATELY and consult your physician”.

As with all the above mentioned occurrences, the etiology was thought to be the same.  It is believed that all the people who suffered these seizures actually had a condition that predisposed them to epileptic activity.   Photosensitive Epilepsy(or PSE) , as it is called, is thought to be a result of these individuals being exposed to bright flashing patterns of red, black and white light.  It is estimated that 1 in every 5,000 people suffer from PSE but interestingly many of the afflicted never experience a seizure when exposed to these light configurations.

Why is that?  If these people all have the same condition why is it that many people suffering from this supposed condition PSE have no seizure activity when exposed to these patterns of light? Extrapolating on this idea it is thus possible that this explanation is inaccurate.  The true explanation lies in a scientific method that has existed since ancient times.  It is called the Sufic Scientific Method and can provide a cure for and an explanation to the many incurable and unexplainable psychiatric maladies that exist.

It should be logical that psychology is not purely a science of the organic.  If it were there would not be so many tenets of its current practice grounded in theory.  Diagnosis of conditions would be definitive and treatments would be curative.  The problem is that many have strayed away from the true science of psychology—and its associated medical subspecialty psychiatry—in order to propagate a system in which the goal is to exploit people and make money.   The current dogma of science and medicine is at most inadequate in helping us understand these mental issues.  This being the case, diagnosing and treating mental ailments is extremely challenging and grave errors are made often—case in point the attribution of Post Avatar Depression to unfulfilled fantasies and the total attribution of epileptic seizures to flashing light patterns.    The International Quranic Open University (IQOU) has been working diligently to alert the public of the TRUE cause of these symptoms, namely possession by Jinns and the astonishing level of moral decay that exists in many societies around the globe.   Jinns are unseen entities that inhabit the world simultaneously with human beings, and often interact with them on different levels.  Sometimes the interactions are congenial but for the most part these exchanges have troublesome results.  Due to the current level of moral unrest in our society, the amount of negative interactions has escalated.  The Abdul Qadir Gilani Sufic Science Institute (or AQJ)—a special branch of the IQOU—has been developed to instruct students in the sciences of the soul and the unseen.

As a central purpose of the AQJ is to eradicate the scourge of mental disease from humanity, we have recently released a DVD titled Jinnology.  This discourse not only depicts the nature of Jinns—the causal organisms responsible for many mental disorders—it also contains healing for those who watch it.

Additionally the AQJ continues to conduct research and other scientific endeavors using the El Gilani Methodology (or EGM).   For those not aware, this is a treatment modality in which Quranic chapters and other spiritual exercises are prescribed for the treatment of non-physical or spiritual afflictions—for which mental disease is the predominate category.  EGM was scientifically demonstrated extensively at a hospital in Taif, Egypt in the late 1970s and continues to be confirmed by many examples today. This modality embodies the saying “never underestimate the power of words”!  As the number of successful scientific demonstrations of EGM continue to increase, the number of people seeking this treatment is also multiplying, but at a greater rate.  As such clinics are being established all over the globe to accommodate this increasing demand.

IQOU department of health and wellness are currently seeking to establish a center in Los Angeles, CA.  We are imploring all those who may treat mental patients, who are suffering from mental afflictions, who seek EGM, and the community at large, to assist us with this endeavor in whatever way that you can.

As members of this department have placed their lives in jeopardy and selflessly given their monies, time, and medical expertise at catastrophic disasters such as Ground Zero, Hurricane Katrina, and the devastating earthquake in Pakistan in 2005, we have done so with the charitable gifts of the community.  Please continue this openhandedness and support this venture for we are responding to this grave crisis whose stake is the mental health of all humanity.

We are attempting to establish a fully equipped and fully staffed multipurpose clinic which will specialize in EGM, psychiatric counseling, childhood illnesses, prenatal care, and general well being. Through this new facility, medical assistance will be given to all that are in need.  The construction of the clinic is to begin immediately.

With sincere appreciation on behalf of the IQOU Health and Wellness department to you all!

The Holy Last Messenger, Muhammad (Rasulullah), peace and blessings be upon him, ate cooling fruits and vegetables like cucumbers, melons, and squash during warm weather. Hazrat Aisha, peace be upon her, narrates that Rasulullah, peace and blessings be upon him, ate watermelon with fresh dates. Hazrat Abdullah Bin Abbas, may Almighty God be pleased with him, narrates that Rasulullah, peace and blessings be upon him, said, “Watermelon is diet as well as drink. It washes and purifies the urinary bladder...” Watermelon also has medicinal uses; it relieves jaundice and kidney pain, clears the stomach, increases facial beauty and immunity, and has cooling effects.  Squash has many medicinal uses; it aids in the treatment of arthritis, headache, fever, and heart diseases.

In earlier issues, I have written about the apparent push in the field of psychiatry to remove the idea of God and the concept of a soul from psychiatric precepts.

This progressive shift in ideology has led its staunchest practitioners to totally disregard any consideration of the infections of the soul as a cause of psychiatric illness.

As time passes, the effects of this disregard manifest in the increased prevalence of mental afflictions and a similar escalation in unsuccessful curative options for these diseases. After further reflection on this subject, it became obvious that a significant part of the problem is that there is a similar movement in all aspects of American culture. In essence, the general inclination is to remove God and religion from all that we do and from whom we are.

There are a few examples below, that have been gleaned from the perusal of the hundreds of articles written on the subject. These should help illustrate the point above and hopefully help us determine a way to reverse this trend which is sure to destroy the very fabric of American culture and the principles on which this country was founded.

BLOUNTVILLE, TN - In August of 2003, the Sullivan County Courthouse was forced to remove the Ten Commandments from display, as the ACLU cited that it was a violation of the Constitution. Ironically, the attorney originally assigned to defend the perspective of the county to keep it, ended up recommending its removal. Opponents of this, believe that this is an insult to the fathers of this country who established the Constitution within the pretext of those commandments.

COLORADO - A mother was astounded at what occurred in her son’s fourth grade class. They were given the assignment of coming up with someone they considered a hero. They were to write an essay, and then stand before the class dressed as that person and give an oral report. The boy chose our master Jesus Christ, peace and blessings be upon him. When this was brought to the attention of school officials, he was immediately instructed to pick another hero. After adamant objection by his parents, the school reached a compromise and allowed the boy to write his essay and dress up, but he would only be allowed to give his oral report to his teacher in private.

NEVADA - A third grader in a Las Vegas school was asked to write in her journal, an entry that told what she enjoyed most about the month of December. When the girl was writing that she enjoyed the fact that it was the birthday of Jesus, son of the chaste Mary (peace be upon them), and that people were able to celebrate it, she was immediately informed by her teacher that she could not write about religion in school.

LOUISIANA - Across the state, nearly 53,000 high school diplomas were recalled due to a problem encountered with format that wasn’t approved by the State Superintendent of Education. In the space that holds the date of the diploma, the customary letters A.D.- which stand for anno domini, the year of the lord - were printed. As this has some religious connotations, the notation on the date line was changed to C.E.—or Common Era—which is considered more politically correct. These unapproved diplomas were destroyed, and replacement documents sent.

WASHINGTON - The top instrumental portion of the Snohomish County High School band annually selects a piece to perform at graduation. In June 2006, they wanted to perform the piece Ave Maria by Franz Biebl. As they had practiced this piece and performed it on other occasions, they felt comfortable with it. They proposed to do the piece without lyrics or words. Additionally, they would exclude the lyrics from the programs distributed to the audience. Even under these conditions the school superintendent, Carol Whitehead, refused to allow them to perform the selection at graduation. As their First Amendment rights were violated, the matter was taken to court by one of the members of the band Kathryn Nurre. The federal district court ruled that it was okay to violate someone’s First Amendment rights in order to circumvent offending anyone who may attend the graduation. The US Court of Appeals agreed with this decision, and the band was not allowed to perform the piece. This case, Nurre v. Whitehead, has established the right of school administrators to censor material that has even the slightest association with religion.

The list of examples such as these continues to grow as one period of time progresses into another in American history. The original reason that pilgrims traveled thousands of miles into uncharted waters and territories, was to escape the religious persecution they faced in their native lands. They withstood unknown dangers, plagues, and the fact they would never return to their homeland, all in the name of God. As we built our country, religion was at the forefront of this effort. One example of this fact is a prayer that was said by one of our country’s esteemed forefathers, Benjamin Franklin, when establishing the Constitution. He said: “I have lived, sirs, a long time—81 years—and the longer I live, the more convincing proof I see of this truth, that God governs the affairs of men. And ‘if a sparrow cannot fall to the ground without His notice,’ is it probable that an empire can rise without His aid?”

How and why have we now arrived at a point where we have totally usurped our founding principles? The reason boils down to materialism.

As our apparent knowledge and understanding of biology has increased, our inherent reliance on God seems to have decreased. The more we know, the more we think we can contend with Him and the less we think we need Him. Matters are made worse by the ideas of scientists such as Charles Darwin, in which biological validity is given to morally reprehensible behavior; thus making these actions accepted in society. These ideas persist as they are in tune with our idea of freedom to do what we want and our level of moral decadence. In order to go on behaving in this manner, we slowly and systematically continue removing all opposing moral ideas—which for us, are interwoven in religion and God—from our society. So in essence we are attempting to remove God and thus any sense of moral obligation we have, in order to further our material objectives.

What we seem to be forgetting is that it is impossible to have a society in which God is not a part, for He is the sole reason why anything in a society exists! The more we try to live, ignoring this concept, the worse society becomes - as seen in increasing crime rates, mental diseases, human atrocities and natural disasters.

In order to reverse this trend and truly prosper, we must turn away from our ungodliness and immorality. If done, we may achieve the reality of the slogan “God bless America, the land I love.” As always, only by God, The Almighty and All Glorious, can we be healed.

It is rare to find someone who is pain free in this day and age.   Children as young as five are on medication.  Pain is big business and very profitable for drug companies.  We create situations for these companies to make there money.  We empower them by not looking for the root causes of our pain.  There are thousands of ads and commercials for pain medications.  Did anyone stop to ask: where does my pain come from?  Why do I have pain, or how can I stop it?  There are many oblivious reasons for pain such as; accidents, operations, childbirth, tooth extraction and the list goes on.  However, the two main causes of pain (what we eat is THE real problem) are dehydration and acid/alkaline imbalance.

Dehydration is a common cause of pain.  We often become dehydrated without even knowing it.  The body gives us signs of dehydration through pain.  Other signs of dehydration are thirst, appetite loss, dry skin, dark urine, chills and fatigue.  As we age the body loses some of its ability to recognize thirst.  Seventy five percent of all Americans are chronically dehydrated.  There are trillions of cells in the human body and when they lack sufficient water they begin to dry up.  Dehydration worsens the following illnesses:  back and neck pain, stress, high cholesterol, high blood pressure, asthma, allergies, arthritis and constipation.  Drink water first thing in the morning to get your alimentary canal working. Tea, coffee and caffeinated drinks rob the body of water.

Acid/alkaline balance is very important and oh so harmful when they are chronically imbalanced. Too many acidy foods create uric acid in the body.  Uric acid causes pain.  Gout, arthritis, inflammations in joints, back, and hips are often caused by uric acid deposits.  Uric acid is a chemical that the body produces when it tries to break down foods that contain purines.   Purines are substances in  heavy foods that are hard to digest such as meats, white flour produces, sweet breads, junk foods, gravy, herring, tuna etc.  When there is a build up of uric acid in the body, this causes pain.  Uric acid crystals often deposit in the joints.  Many people also have a condition called acidosis.  Acidosis is often caused by a diet that is high in purines and medication.  Blood pressure, cholesterol-lowering drugs, and pain medications cause excess acid in your system.  The kidneys, lungs and skin filter out and eliminate acid buildup.  The best way to clear your system is drinking water.  The more water you drink the better chances of flushing toxic levels of acid out of your system.  The kidneys regulate the acid/alkaline balance of the blood stream by eliminating uric acids through urine, and they need help often due to the unhealthy foods that are consumed daily.  Recent research has shown that chronic pain is destructive to the body.  The longer it is untreated the worst it becomes.  The best herbs to take for pain are; cayenne, turmeric, peppermint, birch leaves and bark, ginger, wild yam, cloves, willow bark, skull cap, kava kava, and black cohosh.

The known world is full of deception.  What one sees with the naked eye is not necessarily what truly exists. Investigation and  research discoveries uncover pollution that is constantly brewing and  a number of unexplained illnesses that seem to  just pop out of nowhere to gain prevalence and fame.  Another observation is that after the said illnesses become famous, they usually strike on a personal level, afflicting acquaintances and family members. Yet, keep in mind that there is no such thing as a coincidence; a little deeper digging will uncover the truth.

ADD/ADHD is classed as a mental disorder that is caused by a (food related) chemical imbalance.  Its symptons include for most persons, a great difficulty  to concentrate on more than any one thing for more than just a few moments.  Children and adults are being diagnosed with this illness, and they are taking (prescribed) drugs which only serve to mask the true culprit. There are many theories as to how this illness began.  Where did it come from?  Where is its future?  The initial report of this problem disease was published in 1902; at that time, it was entitled “morbid defect of moral control”.  In 1922, it was renamed  “post encephalitic behavior disorder”.  The name of this illness has changed at least 13 times.  Today, it is called Attention Deficit Disorder or Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder.  Quite a number of people believe it is an invented disorder created by engineers who produce diseases and disorders to justify, and  introduce prescription medications for profit and control purposes, “scientists who want to sell drugs”.

Frankly speaking, in this computer age which is fast paced and geared to tantalize, stimulate, activate and tease the senses whether solicited or not, how can anyone not have ADHD? Moreover, what is said to be ADD/ADHD is most likely to be a case of over stimulation, due to a higher than normal degree of white sugar, junk foods, food additives, stress, and stimulants.

ADD/ADHD is a chronic problem.and is increasingly prevalent amongst children. Reports state that 44 million children in the United States have been diagnosed with it.  Out of those statistics, 2.5 million are on medication for it.

Contact with or consumption of sugary and artificial foods, computers, cell phone, television, i-pods, and violent video games on a daily basis, are a good combination for emotional stress.  When these bad habits have been made routine, the decision to break them means gearing for a  fight.

ADD/ADHD can be cured for those who want to be cured.  It will require time and effort on the part of the patient.  There are very helpful herbs that can help calm down affected children.  Removing as many chemicals from the medicine cabinet is a good way to start.  .

One of the main, very damaging chemicals that is  hidden in processed foods is Tartrazine. It contributes to our many illnesses and also triggers ADD/ADHD . Tartrazine FD&C NO.5, is a yellow dye used in food coloring, known to cause asthma, hives, itching, eczema, itchy eyes, behavior changes, mood swings, sneezing, coughs, hoarseness, vomiting, diarrhea, sinus pain, runny nose, and of course ADD/ADHD.  Chickens are even fed this additive. You can find this ingredient in the following:

Shrimp, candies, hot dogs, skim milk, Krafts macaroni & cheese, Mountain Dew, shampoo, vitamins, aspirin, breads, cake mixes, artificially colored drinks, tang, ice cream, butter/cheese, canned fruits and vegetables, cosmetics, lotions, and toothpaste.

However, ADD/ADHD can be cured in time with diligent watchfulness of what is eaten. Here is a list of helpful herbs; Kava kava, Valerian, ginkgo biloba, milk thistle, bilberry, catnip, hawthorn, hops, skull cap, lemon balm, gotu cola, Siberian ginseng, and ashwagandha. Below is a good herbal combination for immediate use:

2 tsp catnip

½ tp hops flowers

2 tsp

fennel seed

2 tsp chamomile flowers

Combine all of the ingredients and give a cup of this tea after breakfast and after dinner daily.

Taking  relaxing baths, and using essential oils of lanander, clary sage, peppermint, and orange blossom are also helpful. Additionally, removing all electronic devises from the sleeping area promotes restful sleep.

When a person has ADD/ADHD their melatonin and magnesium is usually very low, and adding these types of simple foods are healing and nourishing:  Roti, tea, organic onions, garlic, honey:  Also, drinking more water and quickly removing cereals, sugars and cakes from the diet will produce a more calm child. As always, natural foods are the best cure for any illness.

One old and trusty remedy is garlic. It has been around since Hazrat Adam (peace be upon him) came from Jennah and widely used by the Greeks, Africans and Romans. Thousands of Muslims have been using garlic and garlic oil for centuries. They believe it to be more effective than penicillin, and it has no side effects.

Health Benefits:

Garlic is known as one of nature’s most potent antibiotics. Garlic is a wonderful herb and hence a wonderful food for building and maintaining optimum health. It has the ability to stimulate cell growth and has a super rejuvenative effect on the entire body. Garlic helps to open up the blood vessels, stimulate circulation and helps reduce blood pressure - especially when Cayenne Pepper (Capsicum) is added. Garlic helps dissolve cholesterol in the blood stream. Its natural antibiotics are effective against bacteria while protecting the body’s normal intestinal flora. It contains many vitamins, minerals and trace elements. Much has been written on this important herb.

Some of the afflictions where excellent results have been reported with Garlic are as follows:

Asthmsa, bronchitis, cancer, candida, circulation, colds, digestion, fungus, heart, high blood pressure, infections, intestinal worms, liver, prostate, and yeast infection.

Aditional health qualities:

Respiratory ailments, nerves and sinus, putrefaction, acts on bacteria, viruses and internal parasites, purges the system of polutants, builds the immune system, stimulates the lymphatic system, prevents pneumonia, disentry, diarrhea and strep infections, arteriosclerosis, expectorant, increases the flow of bile.

Cooking with Garlic helps also but the active ingredient or parts can easily be destroyed by heat. There are 50 compounds in Garlic and 10 of them are active in reducing cancer, so, it is best taken raw. This leads to a problem of social acceptance due to the often objectionable smell. Most odorless Garlic tablets or capsules have the active compounds reduced or removed. This could cause the Garlic formulation (product) to be less effective.

Whenever anyone sees blood they are frightened because this usually signals something serious is happening. One rarely thinks of blood, unless it is seen.

The blood pumping through the veins is the lifeline. It distributes oxygen, nutrients, and hormones throughout the body, while removing waste and toxins from the system.

It is in the blood where the body’s main immune system defenses – the protection from illness and infection– are located.

Blood is vital to the body, and to good health.

Allah, the Glorified and Exalted, has created the body to purify itself. The kidneys, liver, and lymphatic system work tirelessly to cleanse the blood of unwanted toxins and impurities.

However, sometimes the work load is just too much and these toxins begin to build up in muscle tissue and blood. This leads to aches, pains, stiff joints, headaches, pimples, boils, nervousness, drowsiness or even discolored skin. These are all symptoms of impure blood.

What Causes Toxin Buildup?

Poor diet, fast food, alcohol (in any form), medication, and environmental toxicity all contribute to the excessive amount of toxins in the body and as a result, modern-day living requires detoxification once in a while to help rejuvenate the system, improve liver function and restore health.

There are many things that contribute to impure blood. Impure water, constipation, or sleeping in rooms with poor ventilation are all factors. Lack of exercise, worries, fear, and unhappiness also cause the blood to be impure.

The brain is ninety percent (90%) water and when the majority of beverages are other than water this is also a contributor to polluted blood.

However, with all of these examples of how blood can become polluted, there is still another one. It has been hidden for a while and is a major factor in many illnesses of today. Many cities are being sprayed with chemical pesticides daily, not just in the United States, but all over the world.

American scientists and laymen have been investigating and analyzing the plants and dirt after these daily diffusions, and have come to the conclusion that they are harmful to the blood. Fabric-like fibers and silicon are what appear to be precipitating or settling; though both are very fine, traces are showing up in blood tests.

Many people are complaining of oozing sores, unexplained rashes on the skin, excess fungus, parasites, and bacterial infections. There have been thousands of people affected, but the average person is not aware of the cause. The disease is called Morgellons, and it is harmful to all. There are reports that numerous people have full blown episodes of this illness.

Some of the symptoms are: lumps in the head, brain fog, hair loss, substances on the eyeball surface, nostrils develop very sore pimples, hacking cough, loose teeth, and a crawling feeling on the skin.

Allah, The Glorified and Exalted, is always present; therefore, continue reciting Darood,  –which are peace and blessings on the Holy Last Messenger– and faithfully reading Holy Qur’an each day. Remember: prayer changes things. Start the day with organic apple cider vinegar to cleanse and flush toxins out of the body. Here are a few suggestions for cleansing the blood:

1. Avoid foods packaged in plastic and aluminum.

2. Eat organic as much as possible. Include 100% organic coconut oil into the diet as it has anti-fungal properties.

3. Create a less acidic diet.

5. Use borax for cleaning clothing and washing dishes.

6. Throw away microwaves.

7. Eat as much organic garlic as possible every day.

8. Herbs that are helpful are: alfalfa, dandelion, milk thistle, fennel, burdock, black walnut powder, lemons.

9. Cut back on sugar and artificial additives.

10. Drink 8 glasses of every day.

11. Grow food in personal gardens.

12. Decrease stress levels – 90% of all diseases are caused or complicated by stress.

13. Beets, pomegranate, carrots and green vegetables are all good blood cleansers. They also oxygenate the blood.

There is no substitute for healthy blood. As much as possible, remain conscious of what is put on the skin, what is ingested and other factors that work against health. Take precautions and remain aware that God, the Most High, is in control of all affairs.

Alzheimer’s disease became well known in 1906 when German physician Alois Alzheimer became dismayed over one of his patient’s behavior. She had come to him in 1901 for treatment. She was a 51 year old woman who had become very confused. She developed problems with speaking and understanding what was being said to her. He worked hard to try to help her, however all of his efforts failed. Her symptoms worsened, and she passed away. He had so many unanswered questions that he requested permission from her family to do an autopsy. The autopsy revealed many things. He was shocked to see that her brain had drastically shrunk. Under the microscope, he saw wide-spread fatty deposits in small blood vessels and from his finding we learn the seriousness of this disease. Alzheimer’s disease (AD) is a brain disorder that is progressive and fatal. There are about 5.3 million in America who live with it. The most common sign is memory loss. However, there are many other warning signs that are also signals, such as:

1. inability to complete daily tasks

2. changing mood swings

3. depression, suspicion

4. fear, anxiousness

5. inability to judge distance

6. problems determining color

7. withdrawing from social activities

Alzheimer’s disease leads to nerve cell death and tissue loss. Overtime, the brain shrinks, and this affects nearly all of its functions. Your brain weighs only three pounds, and there are three parts cerebellum, cerebrum, and the brain stem. Your brain is nourished by a network of blood vessels.

During each and every heart beat, arteries carry about 20 to 25 percent of your blood to your brain. When you are thinking hard your brain may use up to 50% of oxygen and fuel. Plaque buildup on artery walls can cause high blood pressure, possibly stroke or heart attack; it can also lead to Alzheimer’s. When a person has Alzheimer’s their immune systems are out of control and attack their own brain cells. This is a very extensive and complicated disease. However,  Allah, the Most High, has created a cure for all illnesses save the end of life–-death.

What is needed to prevent this illness, is the knowledge of what causes it exactly. Here are a few things that can cause Alzheimer’s disease:

1. Aluminum- it poisons the blood. It enters our blood through pots and pans, aluminum foil, aluminum soda cans, deodorant, lotion and processed foods, and it does terrible damage to the immune system. Aluminum damages the nervous system in both adults and infants. Scientists know that aluminum wreaks havoc in the body and should be avoided.

2. Aspartame- a poison that is sometimes used as a sugar substitute in diet food and drink. It is very damaging to the nervous system.

3. Prescription medications -(in excess) they destroy your immune system; read the fine print to see the side effects.

4. Head injuries/ chronic infections

5. Environmental toxins – poisons are airborne, water is contaminated, crops are sprayed with pesticides and immunization shots contain chemicals that are lethal.

Allah knows best why, and exactly how a person contracts this illness. There is a hadith that states:

“How wonderful the case of a Believer; there is good for him in everything and this is not the case with anyone except a believer. If prosperity attends him, he expresses gratitude to Allah and that is good for him; and if adversity befalls him, he endures it patiently and that is better for him.”

Here are a few remedies that have been in use:

1. Ginkgo biloba -- increases blood circulation, enhances memory and delays onset of AD

2. Club Moss (huperzine) -- improves memory and has no side effects

3. Water Hyssop (bacopa monnieri) -- enhances nerve impulse transmission and strengthens memory

4. Leech therapy -- has been used for centuries in anti-aging, MS, Alzheimer’s and poor blood circulation

5. Blessed Thistle -- strengthens memory, takes oxygen to the brain and helps circulation; also high in Vitamin A

6. Fenugreek -- prevents fatty deposits, kills infection, reduces inflammation

7. Turmeric -- antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, anti viral, anti fungal, invigorates the blood

Here is a list of herbs and foods that are also helpful; blueberries (high in vitamin E), rosemary, willow, dandelions, almonds, sage, stinging nettle, Brazil nuts, walnuts, and gotu cola. Exercising the brain is very important for mental health. If you do not use your brain you lose mental abilities. Read challenging books; Holy Quran is the best book.

Alzheimer’s is a very debilitating disease. It steals the personalities of people. Everyone involved with an Alzheimer’s patient needs support.

Cold and flu season has finally arrived, and it is very likely your immune system is in battle. Ever-present viral and bacterial agents are constantly waiting to attack healthy cells. There are also many man made germs and chemicals that are major contributors to our illnesses; however, during the winter months many people suffer from flu and allergy symptoms too. Recently flues are more resistant now and have become harder to cure. Admittedly trying to avoid a cold is hard work, but there are ways to combat illness by eating proper foods and utilizing herbs that introduce heat and healing to the system.

The immune system is like a force field which helps prevent illness. Sometimes the immune system becomes overwhelmed and overloaded due to the consumption of excess sugars, starches, over-eating, caffeine, stress, or lack of sleep. This causes an interruption of our immune system without which we become more susceptible to colds and disease. Symptoms of low immune activity are frequent colds, allergies and other illnesses.

Achieving a healthy immune system, is greatly affected by our life-style. Stress level, dietary habits, and general health and fitness all contribute to proper immune function.

Following are a few tips that can facilitate a healthier immune system:

1. Eat natural foods (no genetically engineered food or processed food). Grow your own vegetables and fruits, or purchase in season from local, organic farmers. Obtain honey locally. It is important to have fresh, live food in your diet. The enzymes in live food are rich in nutrients that help heal your body.

2. Limit sugar intake. Large amounts of sugar reduces the ability of white blood cells to engulf and destroy bacteria, and white blood cell impairment leads to depressed or suppressed immune activity.

3. Do not consume meat everyday.

4. Drink 5 or 6 eight-ounce glasses of water a day.

5. Add more fresh and or dried herbs to your diet.

6. Exercise daily.  Walk, march in place or chair exercises; do whatever is easy for you.  Strengthen your body. Just get the body moving, regularly.

7. Perform deep breathing exercises. Fresh air removes toxins from the body.

8. Make sure you eat enough vegetables or their fresh juice daily.

An immune building juice recipe is:

3 carrots

1 celery stalk

1 Red Delicious apple

1 beet

handful of parsley

handful of wheat grass

pinch of cayenne pepper

Juice all of the ingredients and add a dash of cayenne. A clove of garlic can also be added. This is a good over all tonic. Home-made yogurt is also good for boosting the immune system. Increasing your vitamin A and C helps prevent colds and flu. Here are a few beneficial herbs and vegetables to boost your diet:

Dark leafy vegetables, yams, radish, carrots, pumpkin, yellow and orange squash, ginger, garlic, burdock, astragalus, ginseng, echinecea, boneset, red clover, mullein, Pau darco, ginkgo, marshmallow, rose hips, green tea, plantain, green olive leaf. A diet that is less acidic and more alkaline would be best. Eliminate processed junk foods, heavily spiced dishes, excess starch or salt, pies, candy and pizza. Baked or steamed vegetables, carrots, beets, and apples will help ward off disease. And finally, drink plenty of dandelion tea all year long. It is a winter cleanser and a spring tonic.

It is privilege for us to have this opportunity to introduce you to the life and legacy of my beloved friend and mentor, UmmSalaamah “Sondra” Abdullah-Zaimah. When we think of her we hear the proverbial wisdom of Ghanaian ancestors whispering, “A child breaks the shell of the snail but not that of the tortoise”.

UmmSalaamah’s journey to become a midwife and her commitment to serve her community and to teach others has been led by her deep faith, the divine guidance of Allah and the calling of her ancestors.  She tenaciously and ambitiously pushes the envelope in life attempting what is beyond her own strength yet accomplishing so much through the will of Allah.

In the mid 1970’s, as the African-American movement   for self-determination, and equal rights reached its crest, UumSalaamah found herself tending to the needs of her Brooklyn community as the neighborhood “herb lady”. The young mother of three worked as a postal worker and, like many in her community, she had little trust in conventional medicine. She describes the trauma of the highly invasive birth of one of her children in a military hospital, and the subsequent mismanaged care of her nine-year old son by a family physician, as a pivotal time when she had to rely upon the wisdom of her grandmother, who used herbs and natural home remedies to cure whatever ailed them.

In the late 1970’s UumSalaamah, in her new occupation as a New York City police officer, attended her first births, equipped with the emergency childbirth training she had received. She noted this as another call from her community, and began reading Ina May Gaskin’sSpiritual Midwifery and Grantly Dick-Read’s Birth Without Fear. On one occasion she arrived before the midwives at the birth of a baby with a double knot in its umbilical cord. The midwives entered just in time to resuscitate the baby and UumSalaamah was scared into seeking out education and training. This event echoed the voices of the ancestors whispering to her, “If one does not know, another teaches.”

UumSalaamah applied to nursing school in Brooklyn and was accepted. But she postponed her enrollment after composing a 10-page letter to Ina May Gaskin requesting training at The Farm in Summertown, Tennessee. She requested their help in training her to better serve as a midwife at the upcoming birth of her teen daughter’s second child and the families of her Brooklyn community. She boarded a bus with her youngest child in tow and arrived at The Farm during the summer of 1979.  The Farm’s mother-centered, natural model of birthing, and model of care resonated deeply within her; she returned to Brooklyn, quit her job, and moved to The Farm to learn from those midwives. She spent the next two years commuting between Brooklyn (taking care of her family and helping her community birth) and The Farm. These years at The Farm, along with her recent conversion to Islam would foster within her an even greater obligation to community and humanitarian service.

In the years that followed UumSalaamah completed nursing school in Brooklyn and then later attended Emory University, in Atlanta, and graduated as the first African-American CNM midwife from this institution. One of her first jobs as a CNM was working for a brief period at the Mary Breckenridge Hospital, home to Frontier School of Midwifery and Family Nursing, in Hyden, Kentucky.

She has worked as a CNM in the states of Georgia, Kentucky, Mississippi, Florida, Texas and most recently, Tennessee. She has studied the health care system in Cuba and traveled in service as a midwife to communities in Senegal, Honduras and Ghana, often living in these communities for months or years at a time. She is also the Midwifery Director for Birthing Project USA.

She can occasionally be found teaching at The Farm’s Midwifery Skills Workshops. In addition, she spends part of her summers volunteering at the Farm’s Kids to the Country youth program for inner city youth.

UumSalaamah has contributed to the sustainability of midwifery through more than six years of service as a MANA Board member where she chaired the founding committee for NARM and established the Women of Color Region (Midwives of Color Section) later becoming a NARM Board Member and serving as a subject matter expert as well as a “tester of the test”.  Her grassroots efforts span decades as a founding member of both Child Birth Providers of African Descent (CPAD) and the International Center for Traditional Childbearing (ICTC) where she served as the Midwifery Director.

Having attended more than 4000 births, UumSalaamah counts her greatest joy in life as being present for the holistic homebirths of three of her eleven grandchildren and two of her fifteen great grandchildren. In 2010 she birthed a new project, Midwives On the Move (MOM), an organization which recognizes the disparities in both infant mortality and maternal mortality in America, Africa and the Diaspora. UumSalaamah is also acutely aware of the difficulty aspiring NARM candidates from communities of color experience in securing preceptors and preceptor sites.  She firmly believes in “being the change we want to see” and she developed  MOM as the venue  to provide oversee preceptorship experience for midwifery students as well as on-site additional training to the midwives at The Abura Dunkwa Midwifery Training Center in Ghana and to  the traditional midwives in the surrounding rural villages. Her goal is to demonstrate to all that the birthing experience can be compassionate, safe and inclusive.
