High fructose is a source of sugar with a hidden agenda.  It’s been used for many years and wreaks havoc in the system.  All sugars are not equal, and please keep in mind that all sugars- in excess- are harmful.   If you apply reason to your diet, you will conclude that caution and scrutiny are required with every morsel you consume.  What you eat causes the majority of your illnesses.  The main ingredient used to destroy our good health for the past century has been sugar.  High fructose corn syrup (HRCS), is the worst.  Our bodies are designed to use glucose (simple sugars) to energize all of our cells.  Basically, every living creature on earth uses glucose for energy.  When we eat foods containing sugars and starch (carbohydrates), our body digests these foods, breaking them down into glucose, which is used to power our cells.  Our small intestine releases glucose into the blood stream.  Our body then responds and releases insulin, which allows glucose to be taken in our cells.  When we take in too much glucose, our body stores the rest for later use, or as fat.  Fructose works differently in the body.  When we eat foods containing fructose, the fructose goes to the liver and does not enter the blood stream, and therefore, our blood sugar levels do not rise in response.  This fact gives fructose low-glycemic properties, however this doesn’t make it healthy.  Fructose is claimed to be a safer alternative for diabetics.  However, they leave out the fact that fructose is processed in the liver, as is alcohol; it is then converted to fat and triglycerides.  Triglycerides are stored fats.  Fructose increases triglyceride levels.  This raises the cholesterol level and promotes heart disease.  It also increases the work load of the liver.  When fructose is metabolized by the liver, the pancreas does not produce the normal amount of insulin. As a result, fructose promotes disease more readily than glucose, and it interferes with the heart’s use of key minerals like magnesium, copper, and chromium.  Daily consumption of fructose is linked to the following illnesses:  diabetes, organ damage, obesity, non- alcoholic fatty liver disease, hypertension, heart disease, elevates liver enzymes and uric acid levels (which is worse than elevating your cholesterol), and gout - to name a few.  Fructose does not increase insulin levels; however, it radically increases insulin resistance, which is very dangerous.  

Fructose is not a fruit; it is a commercial, refined sugar, and a man-made poison.  To try to metabolize fructose daily destroys the metabolism.  It is difficult to maintain balance or order.  When, because of daily use, you become sensitized to fructose, your body inherits its toxic effects as well.  Fructose, in excess, is the real problem.  Our bodies were not designed to process such large amounts of it.  Fruit drinks, soda, candies, cakes, breads and the new and popular scam, Agave, are all sources of fructose.  The agave plant in its natural state is anti-inflammatory, anti- bacterial and an immune booster; it does require processing to become edible.  However, after the extensive processing from manufacturers, its medicinal properties are stripped and the end result is a product with the highest fructose content of any commercial sweetener.  It should be avoided like the plague.  It is equally important to avoid foods that cause you harm - stop eating processed foods!  Drink more water.  Add one tablespoon of vinegar to a glass of water in the morning and cleanse your systems.  Bake your own bread, and make your own candy and you will know what you are eating.

The Holy Last Messenger, Muhammad (Rasulullah), peace and blessings be upon him, ate cooling fruits and vegetables like cucumbers, melons, and squash during warm weather. Hazrat Aisha, peace be upon her, narrates that Rasulullah, peace and blessings be upon him, ate watermelon with fresh dates. Hazrat Abdullah Bin Abbas, may Almighty God be pleased with him, narrates that Rasulullah, peace and blessings be upon him, said, “Watermelon is diet as well as drink. It washes and purifies the urinary bladder...” Watermelon also has medicinal uses; it relieves jaundice and kidney pain, clears the stomach, increases facial beauty and immunity, and has cooling effects.  Squash has many medicinal uses; it aids in the treatment of arthritis, headache, fever, and heart diseases.

It is rare to find someone who is pain free in this day and age.   Children as young as five are on medication.  Pain is big business and very profitable for drug companies.  We create situations for these companies to make there money.  We empower them by not looking for the root causes of our pain.  There are thousands of ads and commercials for pain medications.  Did anyone stop to ask: where does my pain come from?  Why do I have pain, or how can I stop it?  There are many oblivious reasons for pain such as; accidents, operations, childbirth, tooth extraction and the list goes on.  However, the two main causes of pain (what we eat is THE real problem) are dehydration and acid/alkaline imbalance.

Dehydration is a common cause of pain.  We often become dehydrated without even knowing it.  The body gives us signs of dehydration through pain.  Other signs of dehydration are thirst, appetite loss, dry skin, dark urine, chills and fatigue.  As we age the body loses some of its ability to recognize thirst.  Seventy five percent of all Americans are chronically dehydrated.  There are trillions of cells in the human body and when they lack sufficient water they begin to dry up.  Dehydration worsens the following illnesses:  back and neck pain, stress, high cholesterol, high blood pressure, asthma, allergies, arthritis and constipation.  Drink water first thing in the morning to get your alimentary canal working. Tea, coffee and caffeinated drinks rob the body of water.

Acid/alkaline balance is very important and oh so harmful when they are chronically imbalanced. Too many acidy foods create uric acid in the body.  Uric acid causes pain.  Gout, arthritis, inflammations in joints, back, and hips are often caused by uric acid deposits.  Uric acid is a chemical that the body produces when it tries to break down foods that contain purines.   Purines are substances in  heavy foods that are hard to digest such as meats, white flour produces, sweet breads, junk foods, gravy, herring, tuna etc.  When there is a build up of uric acid in the body, this causes pain.  Uric acid crystals often deposit in the joints.  Many people also have a condition called acidosis.  Acidosis is often caused by a diet that is high in purines and medication.  Blood pressure, cholesterol-lowering drugs, and pain medications cause excess acid in your system.  The kidneys, lungs and skin filter out and eliminate acid buildup.  The best way to clear your system is drinking water.  The more water you drink the better chances of flushing toxic levels of acid out of your system.  The kidneys regulate the acid/alkaline balance of the blood stream by eliminating uric acids through urine, and they need help often due to the unhealthy foods that are consumed daily.  Recent research has shown that chronic pain is destructive to the body.  The longer it is untreated the worst it becomes.  The best herbs to take for pain are; cayenne, turmeric, peppermint, birch leaves and bark, ginger, wild yam, cloves, willow bark, skull cap, kava kava, and black cohosh.

One old and trusty remedy is garlic. It has been around since Hazrat Adam (peace be upon him) came from Jennah and widely used by the Greeks, Africans and Romans. Thousands of Muslims have been using garlic and garlic oil for centuries. They believe it to be more effective than penicillin, and it has no side effects.

Garlic is known as one of nature’s most potent antibiotics. Garlic is a wonderful herb and hence a wonderful food for building and maintaining optimum health. It has the ability to stimulate cell growth and has a super rejuvenative effect on the entire body. Garlic helps to open up the blood vessels, stimulate circulation and helps reduce blood pressure - especially when Cayenne Pepper (Capsicum) is added. Whenever anyone sees blood they are frightened because this usually signals something serious is happening. One rarely thinks of blood, unless it is seen.

The blood pumping through the veins is the lifeline. It distributes oxygen, nutrients, and hormones throughout the body, while removing waste and toxins from the system.

It is in the blood where the body’s main immune system defenses – the protection from illness and infection– are located.

Blood is vital to the body, and to good health.

Allah, the Glorified and Exalted, has created the body to purify itself. The kidneys, liver, and lymphatic system work tirelessly to cleanse the blood of unwanted toxins and impurities.

However, sometimes the work load is just too much and these toxins begin to build up in muscle tissue and blood. This leads to aches, pains, stiff joints, headaches, pimples, boils, nervousness, drowsiness or even discolored skin. These are all symptoms of impure blood.

What Causes Toxin Buildup?

Digestion of food is essential to the well being of everyone. Without proper digestion we invite countless illnesses to visit us. Digestion begins in the mouth, by chewing food down to the tiniest morsel possible. Most people are in such a rush to eat that they do not chew their food properly and the end result is acid reflex, indigestion, or heartburn. The pre-mentioned maladies can also come from eating poor food combinations, microwaved foods, or processed food daily. When you begin to digest your food you change it from one form into another: it is a physical and chemical process. This process is necessary for your body and cells to assimilate, absorb, and finally eliminate all unused portions of your meal. Whenever you put anything into your mouth this process begins. Unfortunately, most people don’t think about their digestive tract until they have problems with it. On a yearly average, around 62 million people show up at the doctor’s office with digestive complaints. This quote, which was written in Hieroglyphics, and found in an ancient Egyptian tomb, should also raise an eyebrow:

“One-quarter of what you eat keeps you alive. The other three quarters keeps your doctor alive”

Modern diets are the cause of most health problems. Diets that consist of overcooked and highly processed food are helping doctors get rich. The digestive tract of a good many people are swimming in an ocean of mucus, which in turn causes a sluggish system. People arise in the morning felling yet worse than when they laid down to rest. Such tired, run down systems then require a shot of coffee to kick start the body in the morning. Furthermore, the bloodstream nowadays is full of mild poisons: poisons from sugar, genetically engineered foods, meats that are loaded with hormones and antibiotics, carbonated beverages, drugs, and even the cosmetics, detergents and soaps that seep into our blood through the skin. These poisons are actually attacked by our immune systems. Most food intake does not help us attain good health. Our intake has become toxic in nature. This toxic overload in food is highly acidic and damaging to our digestive tract. Our diets should be more alkaline than acidic. The body constantly tries to balance itself and bring you back to an alkaline state. A healthy diet is about 80% alkaline and 20% acidic. However most of diets are just the opposite. We have too much acid in our diet. Did you know that cancer can not grow in an alkaline environment? Alkalinity increases the oxygen in your body. Scientists have researched these facts and found that clean oxygenated blood is mandatory for good health. In 1931 the Nobel Prize winning work of Dr. Otto Warburg showed that cells weaken, mutate, or die in the absence of oxygen. Several years later two time Nobel Prize winner, Dr. Linus Pauling, was the first to show that cancer cells are unable to grow in an oxygen rich environment.

Unfortunately there many bad habits prohibiting our health. Discipline and understanding of how things really work is needed, especially regarding the digestive systems. To some rather small degree it is not all our fault, however. This society promotes obesity. Greed has invaded the lives of many. Over eating is a hobby. Most people don’t realize that over eating increases the hearts pumping action, which also increases the blood supply and in turn raises the blood pressure. Continuously over eating can cause degeneration of tissues of the heart and brain. If we are what we eat, then we are in trouble.

Why is digestion so important, you may still ask? The answer is that food ultimately determines how you look, feel, and function. A proper balance of raw vegetables, fruits and juices (that are in season), organic meats, butter and whole grains is essential to have a healthy functioning system. In the winter, root crops are eaten, and warming foods. In the summer cooling foods and summer fruits keep the system running properly. Digestive enzymes are needed to help food digest. The pancreas produces enzymes. It produces about two pints of digestive juice which is also alkaline. If we do not have enough enzymes within our foods, the pancreas recruits enzymes from other parts of the body. This is a job within itself and over taxes the pancreas. This extra job, when done daily, often causes the pancreas to enlarge. A diet that is high in acid wears away at your bones, causes arthritis and decays teeth.

In reality good digestive health is the result of what is assimilated, not what is necessarily eaten. Only the foods that are assimilated can be utilized for rebuilding and repairing cells and malfunctions. We are allergic to many foods; and why not, if we are not eating real food? Allergic reactions can be exhibited in many forms. Here are a few: immediate bloating, burping which is sometimes sour, heart burn, runny nose, excess mucus, flatulence, diarrhea, and vomiting. Extreme cases involve fever, but what is fever except an avenue the body uses to destroy the poisons that have invaded you. Onions and garlic should be added to the daily diet. Eat radishes like candy. When using vinegar use organic apple cider vinegar or make your own. Vinegar helps break down fats and proteins. Eat fruits and vegetables in season only. The Almighty Creator has provided a wide variety of foods to choose from; figs, kale, horseradish, olives from the tree, pumpkin, okra, collard green, and honey to name a few. Our Creator has given us so much. Eat simple, live simple, and reflect.

Cold and flu season has finally arrived, and it is very likely your immune system is in battle. Ever-present viral and bacterial agents are constantly waiting to attack healthy cells. There are also many man made germs and chemicals that are major contributors to our illnesses; however, during the winter months many people suffer from flu and allergy symptoms too. Recently flues are more resistant now and have become harder to cure. Admittedly trying to avoid a cold is hard work, but there are ways to combat illness by eating proper foods and utilizing herbs that introduce heat and healing to the system.

The immune system is like a force field which helps prevent illness. Sometimes the immune system becomes overwhelmed and overloaded due to the consumption of excess sugars, starches, over-eating, caffeine, stress, or lack of sleep. This causes an interruption of our immune system without which we become more susceptible to colds and disease. Symptoms of low immune activity are frequent colds, allergies and other illnesses.

Achieving a healthy immune system, is greatly affected by our life-style. Stress level, dietary habits, and general health and fitness all contribute to proper immune function.

Following are a few tips that can facilitate a healthier immune system:

1. Eat natural foods (no genetically engineered food or processed food). Grow your own vegetables and fruits, or purchase in season from local, organic farmers. Obtain honey locally. It is important to have fresh, live food in your diet. The enzymes in live food are rich in nutrients that help heal your body.

2. Limit sugar intake. Large amounts of sugar reduces the ability of white blood cells to engulf and destroy bacteria, and white blood cell impairment leads to depressed or suppressed immune activity.

3. Do not consume meat everyday.

4. Drink 5 or 6 eight-ounce glasses of water a day.

5. Add more fresh and or dried herbs to your diet.

6. Exercise daily.  Walk, march in place or chair exercises; do whatever is easy for you.  Strengthen your body. Just get the body moving, regularly.

7. Perform deep breathing exercises. Fresh air removes toxins from the body.

8. Make sure you eat enough vegetables or their fresh juice daily.

An immune building juice recipe is:

3 carrots

1 celery stalk

1 Red Delicious apple

1 beet

handful of parsley

handful of wheat grass

pinch of cayenne pepper

Juice all of the ingredients and add a dash of cayenne. A clove of garlic can also be added. This is a good over all tonic. Home-made yogurt is also good for boosting the immune system. Increasing your vitamin A and C helps prevent colds and flu. Here are a few beneficial herbs and vegetables to boost your diet:

Dark leafy vegetables, yams, radish, carrots, pumpkin, yellow and orange squash, ginger, garlic, burdock, astragalus, ginseng, echinecea, boneset, red clover, mullein, Pau darco, ginkgo, marshmallow, rose hips, green tea, plantain, green olive leaf. A diet that is less acidic and more alkaline would be best. Eliminate processed junk foods, heavily spiced dishes, excess starch or salt, pies, candy and pizza. My younger sister is a master gardener and is really into organic foods. We have conversations on many subjects and she believes she is correct most of the time.  During one of our discussions about milk,  she reported to me that someone told her that the Vitamin D in milk was derived from pig.  I thought about it and it didn’t make sense to me for that to be the case, I felt it was easier to get it from other sources.  Well, after a little research, it turns out that she was right.  Vitamin D comes from pig!  BUT, it also comes from other sources.

 

Vitamin D is used by the body for the absorption of calcium, which is essential for the normal development of healthy teeth and bones. It also helps maintain adequate blood levels of calcium and phosphorus as well. This Vitamin also promotes the immune system’s natural defense and it may help to prevent or reverse coronary artery disease, preventing heart attacks. 

Vitamin D3 is synthesized by the body via the skin after sunlight exposure; hence, its other name - the "sunshine Vitamin".  About ten minutes of sunshine 3 times weekly is adequate to produce the body's requirement of Vitamin D. For persons who live in areas with low sunlight or have skin conditions that preclude them from being in the sun, or for those who have conditions that expose them to low Vitamin D, it is necessary that they receive supplementation.  This is often accomplished by taking tablets by mouth or by acquiring it in foods that we eat. 

    

The most common source of Vitamin D is milk. In nature, cow’s milk already contains Vitamin D, but the amount is usually significantly insufficient for our daily requirements. Additionally, it is only whole milk that retains its innate Vitamin D, for the other milks are produced by having the fat removed and thus stripping the milk of its natural Vitamin D. This then, necessitates that the milk be fortified. It is  usually in one of two forms, namely Vitamin D2 or Vitamin D3.  D2 is derived from yeast, while D3 is usually a product of animal slaughter.   D2 is bitter so the industry has been opting to primarily use D3.  D3 for fortification is usually produced  from cow, pig or sheep. But the normal source for Vitamin D3 is the skin of the cow, and the cow is slaughtered. Pig skin is hardly used because of the Jewish lobby, says one source.

 

Another source is the lanolin from sheep's  wool,  The sheep is not slaughtered, but simply shaven to acquire the wool and the lanolin is synthesized from the wool fat. The diligent research done by my sister and I revealed that there are a few manufacturers that confirmed the use of Lanolin for D3 production and they are as follows:

It appears that lanolin may be the major source of D3 in foods, but you can never be certain.  Milk was the major product research, but it appears that Cabot cheese also uses lanolin.  Other dairy products will be researched at a later date.  

As we move forward, we are all attempting to improve our performance in the ways of daily life practices.  We were told in the past that if we checked all labels, then we may find that their will be little that we would be able to eat.  The caveat that I ask everyone to consider is that on this spiritual journey one thing that is known to muddle the condition of the heart is the consumption of unlawful food. I will keep everyone abreast  as more information becomes available.  As always only by Allah, Almighty and Glorious is He, can we be healed!

The illness known as Hepatitis is reported to be spreading through the U.S.A in leaps and bounds.   The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention are now calling hepatitis the silent killer or silent epidemic.  This is because many people are carriers of it and are unaware.  It is said to be killing more people than H.I.V.  About 3.2 million Americans are estimated to have chronic hepatitis C and only half of them may know.  This virus affects 170 million people world-wide.  

Hepatitis is a liver infection caused by a virus.  It is categorized according to disease type.  Each type is different and they are identified by their alphabetical names such as hepatitis A, B, C, D, E, F, and G.  The virus can be broken down further into four types; anemic hepatitis, chronic hepatitis, acute hepatitis, and contagious hepatitis.

A common symptom of hepatitis is jaundice.  Other symptoms are enlargement of the liver, vomiting, diarrhea, anorexia, white paste like stool and darkened coca cola colored urine.  All are treatable if the patient works quickly using natural means. It is usually passed through infected blood, from transfusions and vaccinations.  It can also be contracted through direct contact with an infected person’s bodily fluids, stool, food, utensils, and poor hygiene.  Improper medical treatment with exposure to strong chemicals, astringent drugs (used to stop diarrhea), and antibiotic can also weaken the liver.  Overuse of heat generating foods and behaviors such as (working in the hot sun, physical labor, and frequent emotional upsets), can enhance a patient’s conditions.  

Hepatitis B and C have a low rate of cure using allopathic medicine in most cases, because drugs just over load the already toxic liver, and add to the problem.  Another common cause of hepatitis often is the accumulation of stones in the liver.  This can also lead to hepatitis.  In 2007 there were 15,000 deaths related to Hepatitis C.  In the media now they are relating that one of every 33 people born between the years 1945-1965 (baby boomers), may be living with undetected hepatitis C.  Allah is the Best of Knower’s and heals whom HE chooses.  

When medical information is given to the masses via television, radio or internet it often causes the general public to be alarmed.  Some react in fright and even paranoia.  Our trust must always be in Allah Subhanna Wa Ta’Ala.  Every test of the Believers is preordained.  There should be no fear nor should we grieve.  There are a remarkable variety of herbs and remedies at hand, Shukran Allah!

Natural organic foods are the best remedy.  Remove fats and meat from your diet.  Fish, canned foods, white bread, denatured cereals, white rice, sugars and sweets, and chemical products should all be removed.  Cream of wheat, wheateena, and suji with a moderate amount of raw honey can be added.  Bulgar wheat, couscous, and lentils can be added to the diet in moderation.  Fresh carrot juice works wonders.  Cold pressed olive oil is very beneficial to the liver.  Upon rising on an empty stomach, take equal portions of lemon juice and olive oil.  This works as a liver flush and helps to detoxify the liver, whether you have hepatitis or not.  Fruits are favorable (always remember if they are in season), lemons, oranges, berries, and bananas.  I cannot stress the necessity for organic fruits and vegetables enough.

Vegetables that are helpful are radishes, dandelions, leeks, garlic, asparagus, artichoke, celery and onions.

Dairy products are acidic and should be consumed in moderation if at all.  Herbs that are helpful are turmeric, amla, dandelion root, Oregon grape, milk thistle, fenugreek, liverwort, blue flag, agrimony, qussia, boldo leaves, capsicum, and licorice (in moderation}.

Although it is not contagious, malaria kills nearly 3 million people worldwide every year. The disease is spread by mosquitoes which are infected with the malaria parasite. The parasite is found in the red blood cells and can be transmitted through a blood transfusion. New studies indicate it may also be transmitted from a mother to her unborn child before or during delivery -which is called congenital malaria.
